DAYS Star Thaao Penghlis Joins Soap Hub for a Fireside Chat

Thaao Penghlis has been entertaining soap viewers with his portrayal of larger than life characters since 1981. After making a splash as Victor Cassadine on General Hospital, the dashing actor created the role of Count Tony DiMera on Days of our Lives. Now, the actor, author, and world traveler is joining us for a Fireside Chat to talk about his incredible career.

Thaao Penghlis: He’s Been Tony and Andre on DAYS

Veteran DAYS fans recall that the actor arrived in Salem in November 1981 as the son of Stefano DiMera (Joe Mascolo) and the husband of Liz Chandler (Gloria Loring).

Showing His Romantic Side

Penghlis’s Tony not only acted as an obstacle between Liz and her true love Neil (Joe Gallison), but he quickly emerged as a romantic leading man. He was first paired with the doomed Renee (Philece Sampler) but soon found his OTP (One True Pairing) in Anna Fredericks Brady (Leann Hunley).

Thaao Penghlis: Emerging From The Fog

After Tony disappeared into the fog in 1985, Penghlis worked in prime time (Mission: Impossible) and daytime (he was Dr. Micah DeAngelis on Santa Barbara). The actor reprised Tony and his dual role of presumed dead lookalike Andre DiMera in the 1990s and again in the 2000s. While Tony also was believed dead, DAYS tweaked its story a bit and revealed that it was actually Andre who had died. But somehow, that never stopped Andre from occasionally popping back up alive. (Stefano’s not the only Phoenix in the DiMera clan!) Penghlis has played both roles on and off. Currently, he’s on the canvas as the dashing Tony.

Penghlis is the author of two books — his memoir, Places: The Journey of My Days, My Lives, and the cookbook Seducing Celebrities One Meal at a Time. Now, the actor is writing and narrating a new podcast titled The Lost Treasures, a thrilling detective story-style exploration of Greece’s greatest contribution to the world’s literature, the poet Homer.
