Romantic reunions, rejected proposals, and unexpected moments helped make the week of July 6-10 memorable. Soap Hub breaks down the hits and misses across all five soaps — Days of Our LivesGeneral HospitalThe Bold and the BeautifulThe Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Key Takeaways

  • Kat rejects Tomas’s surprise proposal, while Carly and Valentin’s reunion steals the show.
  • Sheila embraces a surprising moment of growth, but Ridge’s interference backfires.
  • Kyle stands by his family as implausible twists and questionable decisions miss the mark.

Hits and Misses Breakdown: July 6-10, 2026

Beyond the Gates

HIT: Kat turns down Tomas’s proposal. What was Tomas (Alex Alegria) thinking when he popped the question at Kat’s welcome home from the hospital party? He interrupted Vernon’s speech. And he couldn’t read the room. It was beyond cringe. And it left Kat (Colby Nixon) stunned. Tomas keeps saying she rejected him in front of her family. That was his fault. But at least Kat took him into another room to actually let him know why they weren’t ready for this step. Yes, it was not Tomas’s best moment, but Kat did the right thing.
MISS: Naomi finally comes clean. Kudos to Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) for finally telling the truth about her BRCA gene test results. She came up with one excuse after another to stay quiet. But it took way too long to get here. The reactions, so far, are measured. Jacob (Jibre Hordges) and Dani (Karla Mosley) are being understanding, but they are both hurt. We’ll see if this hurt has legs. And she still has the rest of the family to tell.
Honorable Mention (HIT AND MISS): Sibling mea culpas. This week, Martin (Brandon Claybon) and Kat apologized to each other. The problem is that Martin should have been the one to apologize to his sister first. He was unnecessarily harsh and completely unsympathetic to his sister when she was trying to figure out whether to donate a portion of her liver to Eva (Ambyr Michelle). He showed no faith in her. But it’s good that he realized, and his apology — when it came — was good.

The Bold and the Beautiful

HIT: Sheila signs the divorce papers. Shelia (Kimberlin Brown) is starting a full-court press on her son. She wants Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Hayes in her life. The jury’s out on that move. But we do commend her for signing the divorce papers. She knows she wasn’t going to get anywhere with Taylor (Rebecca Budiig) and Deacon (Sean Kanan). And she was self-aware enough to see the truth. She said she didn’t want to be with someone who doesn’t love her. That’s huge. We hope that Sheila has moved on from her murderous tendencies, although she should never be completely de-clawed. The growth she showed this week was refreshing.
MISS: Ridge interferes in Electra’s life. What is Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) doing? Logan’s success is causing him to spiral. In no world should he dictate the love lives of his family or his employees. He knows that it’s business to keep certain aspects secret until the right time. That’s just the way it’s done in business. Will (Crew Morrow) wasn’t obligated to tell Electra (Laneya Grace). And now that the secrets have exploded, Ridge is making sketchy decisions. Will and Elecra’s relationship is collateral damage.
Honorable Mention (HIT): Bill scores points in his confrontation with Ridge. Bill (Don Diamont) took a few successful shots during this week’s showdown with Ridge. He is not someone we root for that often. But crowning himself king and referring to. R.J. (Brayan Nicoletti) as mini-Ridge was classic. He also sounded way more logical and rational than Ridge did. Bill won the latest battle.

Days of our Lives

HIT: Xander, Sarah, and Brady work together to solve a mystery. Xander (Paul Telfer) and Brady (Eric Martsolf) are almost always at odds. And now Brady is seeing Xander’s ex-wife, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey). But the three are putting their baggage behind them to work together to solve the mystery of arsenic, Coriseal, and Holly’s sickness, which can be traced back to DiMera. It’s refreshing when characters stop regurgitating the same tired arguments and interactions. Their focus is on something bigger.
MISS: A book once again has its day in Salem. Another aspect of Holly’s hospital stint wasn’t as successful. Johnny (Carson Boatman) took a medical book, opened it to the arsenic page, and left it on Sarah’s desk for her to find. Sarah somehow immediately knew what was up when she spotted it. That open book did a lot of work to move the story forward.
Honorable Mention (MISS): Alex suggesting he take over as CEO. Speaking of books, Alex’s bid to take over as CEO was based on his argument that Titan’s publishing division is currently the company’s only success. If Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) really wanted the CEO job, he needed to bring more to the table. Like specifics of how to get the money for the loan that EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) holds. He may have been right that Xander and Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) were responsible for the mess Titan is in, but his solution wasn’t realistic.

General Hospital

HIT: Carly and Valentin’s reunion. We did not have Carly (Laura Wright) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) running into each other’s arms to reunite on our bingo card. The moment took place outside in a parking lot. Not exactly the most romantic place. A black SUV pulled up, and Valentin got out. Carly happened to be right there talking to Sonny (Maurice Benard). As soon as she saw that Valentin got out of the car, she went flying into Valentin’s arms, and they started kissing. They did not care who saw them. Valentin was free. The expression on Sonny’s face was hilarious. And even Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) were there to witness. It was pure romance and drama, and we loved it.
MISS: The Teens. Don’t get us wrong. We LOVE the teens. The actors are so good, and GH has the best teen population on soaps. But this week, they were a little trying. Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) for not understanding anything about the WSB. He knows his father covered for Rocco (Finn Carr) for a reason. And Rocco for being insensitive to Danny’s feelings. Charlotte for accusing her mom of keeping secrets when she did the same thing.
Honorable Mention (HIT): John Oliver. Whenever someone shows respect and love for soaps and means it, we’re here for it. John Oliver’s three-episode guest-starring stint ended up being fun as he got to do all the things he wanted. He had the ridiculous soap name. What’s better than “Z”? He played an integral role — the head of the WSB who got to kill one of Cullum’s henchmen. He got the extreme close-up he wanted. AND, he got slapped. He also got to move the story forward. His deal with Joss (Eden McCoy) resulted in Valentin and Jason’s freedom. And he recruited a very much alive Cassius (Ryan Paevey) for the WSB. And even better — much like Brick (Stephen A. Smith) — the character could be brought back periodically. Let’s hope Oliver will return someday.

The Young and the Restless

HIT: Lauren Koslow temporarily steps in as Jill Abbott. We’re not fans of bringing temporary recasts in for pivotal moments. But we also know that sometimes it can’t be helped. Lauren Koslow had big shoes to fill, and she did it seamlessly. She brought the emotion needed to tackle Jill’s scenes with Billy (Jason Thompson). While we look forward to Jess Walton’s return, Koslow did an amazing job stepping in for her. So major kudos to her.
MISS: Patty frames Diane for Jack’s stabbing. There was no way Patty (Stacy Haiduk) could have framed Diane (Susan Walters) for stabbing Jack (Peter Bergman). It just wasn’t plausible. The cops basically took the word of a known psycho and the doctor who therapized her over everybody else. And they wouldn’t even question Kyle (Michael Mealor) because he was Diane’s son and would say anything to protect his mom. Okay, but they should still get his statement. He was with her every second. Christine (Lauralee Bell) was ready to bring charges against Diane without even entertaining the Patty factor. Thankfully, the cast is as good as they are. They did their best to sell this story. They deserve the world.
Honorable Mention (HIT): Kyle steps up for his family. One of the bright lights of the Patty-Jack-Diane story was the way Kyle fought for his parents. He really stepped up to try to protect them. He supported them unconditionally and without judgment. And it was subtle, but he showed emotion after Jack was stabbed and his mother was arrested. He called the police as he watched his mother go after Patty and then ultimately get jabbed in the neck with a syringe filled with Digitalis. He saw his parents going through hell because of this woman. Michael Mealor’s performances were compelling. And this story gave us a new, much-needed perspective on Kyle.
