Gladys Corbin’s overnight golden locks have had General Hospital fans buzzing. Sure, actress Bonnie Burroughs could have simply decided to change up her hair, but it’s far more likely that the dye job is a calculated precursor to a plot that’s coming down the pike. The question is, Is a blockbuster Sonny Corinthos twist behind General Hospital’s new blonde Gladys?
General Hospital Dream Girl
Shortly after Sonny (Maurice Benard) woke up with memory loss and began his new life as “Mike” in Nixon Falls, he had a dream. It featured a blonde woman, who he viewed from behind in the distance.
Sonny never saw her face, but he instantly felt a connection to her. When he met Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and mentioned the dream, she quickly set him straight. She wasn’t the woman rattling around in his subconscious.
Although Sonny hasn’t had that dream since, thoughts of the mystery blonde still linger in the back of his mind. Who is she? What does she mean to him? Would seeing her again make every moment he’s forgotten come rushing back to him? Or would he simply rely on the golden-haired woman to tell him the truth about his past?
Enter, Gladys Corbin
Here’s the scenario we can see coming to General Hospital. Sonny follows Nina back to Port Charles on one of her visits back home and ends up being spotted by his conniving cousin, Gladys, and vice versa.
Her shocked reaction, coupled with her blonde hair, triggers something in Sonny. He thinks he knows her, although he’s not certain who she is. Gladys immediately picks up on what’s going on – Sonny has amnesia – and realizes she can use the situation to her advantage.
GH: In the Driver’s Seat
Gladys wouldn’t even have to lie to a point. She’s Sonny’s cousin and could tell him that, although she’ll likely have to fudge some and say they’re super close – maybe even as tight as siblings. Overnight, Gladys would find herself in a position she could never have imagined as Sonny’s confidante and a person he trusts.
Of course, Gladys would realize she really hit the jackpot, when she learns of Nina’s involvement in Sonny’s new life — that Nina knew Sonny was alive for months and kept it a secret from his grieving family.
Suddenly, Nina would find herself beholden to Gladys, who could blow up her entire world, if she decided to go to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) or Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) with the truth.
Desperate to keep that from happening, wealthy Nina would have to resort to the only language Gladys understands – money, paying her off to keep silent. It would be an outside-the-box twist in the complicated Sonny/Nina storyline, and perfectly explain why the scheming Gladys had to go blonde.
