The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Nina Webster learns of her son Chance Chancellor’s death, and she returns to mourn alongside his wife, Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor. However, it doesn’t seem like others who should know about this important character’s demise have learned of it.
Chance was born on the show, and Y&R misses a vital opportunity to bring in a lot of history. Chance is part of the legacy Chancellor family, and, strangely, the past isn’t played up more. So many more people should know that Chance is presumed dead.
This storyline is a time to bring in soapy moments we crave as viewers, but it seems like the show dropped the ball. General Hospital recently did an excellent job showing a broader reaction to a serious storyline with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) after he supposedly died that ripple effect, and we’d love to see The Young and the Restless step up in a similar fashion.
Sure, we get that Abby (Melissa Ordway) still holds out hope for her husband’s safety, and we suspect future Y&R spoilers will hint that Chance managed to live through the explosion. However, at this point, Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) is so convinced that Chance died that she contacted Nina (Tricia Cast).
Chance’s “death” is a golden opportunity to play the fallout of an important legacy character. However, instead of focusing purely on Abby’s reaction, they need to pull in other characters. For instance, even Chance’s ex, Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson), is currently on The Young and the Restless canvas, so she would be a great one to bring in.
However, others who spent plenty of time with Chance include people like her mother Esther Valentine (Kate Linder), who spent much of her time at the Chancellor Mansion, and he meant a lot to her. Another prominent person who must know ASAP is Jill Foster Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton), and we strongly suspect she’ll end up learning about Chance’s supposed demise, but we’d love to see more of her right now in the thick of the storyline.
Chance’s brother, Ronan Malloy (Jeff Branson), is another person who absolutely needs to be in this storyline. Finally, and most notably, Chance’s father, Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz), should be told. Is somebody going to contact him in Australia and let him know? At this point, we don’t hold out much hope of that. We hope to be proven wrong.
