The Y&R recap for Tuesday, January 3, 2023, brings a big reunion, plans for the future, a couple vowing to fight for their relationship, and so much more.

Y&R Recap Highlights

Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) advised Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) on their upcoming meeting with a potential birth mom, and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) thanked her. Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) said goodbye to Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian), and later, the latter and Christine caught up. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) apologized to Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) gave Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) some good advice and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) encouraged Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) to fight for Lily. Now let’s take a deeper look at what happened.

Y&R Recap: Goodbye

On the patio at Crimson Lights, Daniel and Danny said their goodbyes, and Danny let his son know he was always there to talk. They also made plans to work together on Daniel’s video game platform. After Daniel left, Danny looked at his phone, thinking about Christine, and she walked in.

Danny and Christine caught up a bit, and then Christine noted that she was there to meet Tessa and Mariah about their adoption. She asked Danny to wait until after her meeting with the potential mothers-to-be if he didn’t have to rush off. He agreed to wait.

Inside, Christine updated Mariah, Tessa, and Sharon on everything happening. She revealed that Delphine was the most excited about Mariah and Tessa. The newlyweds talked about how anxious they were about meeting the birth mom. Christine and Sharon advised the gals to be themselves when they meet Delphine. Mariah and Tessa said they knew that their trip might not turn out the way they wanted, but they both agreed that it was part of the journey that would lead to their baby. The women left to pack for their flight, and Sharon thanked Christine for shepherding them through their adoption journey.

On the patio, Danny flashed back to meeting Christine — then Cricket — and he replayed many of their big relationship highlights in his mind. Some were wonderful, but then, of course, their arguments also made an appearance in Danny’s memories. Christine walked back out to the patio, and she thanked Danny for waiting. He said time with Christine was worth the wait.

They caught up with each other and their careers. Christine pointed out that Danny was still making music and selling out shows, and she wondered if he was still enjoying all the touring. He said he was, but Danny noted that it did have its downsides. Even so, he loved traveling the world. He updated her on Gina Roma (Patty Weaver).

Christine also wondered how Daniel was doing, and he admitted that he and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) were rallying around their son. She admitted that she was surprised to see that he and Phyllis had remained in such close touch over the years. He denied that they were close, but Danny said they were more like teammates. Christine didn’t have much nice to say about Phyllis, and he said he’d wondered how his life would be if Phyllis had never been in his life.

Christine said she was glad they’d found a way to co-exist, but she didn’t have any forgiveness for Phyllis, though — especially since Phyllis nearly cost Christine her life. She noted that she was glad she and Danny had both moved on and found happiness — even if it wasn’t together. Danny mentioned he’d seen her last at her wedding to Paul Williams (Doug Davidson), noting they were going on 10 years together, and Christine said things were going well between them.

Christine asked if Danny had somebody special in his life, and he said he had a casual relationship with somebody, given how busy his life is. Even so, he admitted that he had room for a dear friend. Christine suggested that she and Paul could go see him in concert, and he made plans for her to go to a show in Chicago with the whole gang. Ultimately, Christine offered to give Danny a ride to the airport, and they left together.

Young and the Restless: Advice

Nate and Victoria met to go over budget details. Nick wasn’t there, and Nate wondered if they should get his input, but Victoria said her brother chose not to show up. Nate brought up Nick wanting Sally to head up Newman Media, but Victoria dismissed it as not her brother’s choice to make.

Victoria worried that her brother had treated Nate unprofessionally, and Nate reassured her that nothing like that happened. Victoria criticized her brother for blurring the lines between his business and professional life. She admitted that she had complete confidence in Nate, and she said she and Nick would eventually get over their disagreement.

Nate wondered if something else was bothering Victoria because she didn’t seem like her usual self. He suggested they “clock out” for a bit to talk about personal stuff. Victoria revealed that she was dealing with parenting challenges, and Nate empathized from his experience being a child. She talked about what was going on with Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind) and how complicated the situation with him was.

Nate didn’t ask the details, but he reassured Victoria that Johnny would always love and respect her. He reminded her that she was understanding and forgiving even though she never missed a trick. Victoria appreciated Nate’s kind words, and he advised her to give Johnny a bit of space and independence.

Nick met with Lily at Society, and he apologized for any role that Newman Enterprises might have had in her family’s argument. Lily thanked Nick for apologizing and she pointed out how difficult the whole thing with Nate had been, and she admitted she could tell that Nick didn’t have any part in whatever may or may not have happened with Nate and Newman Enterprises.

Nick picked up that there were problems between Lily and Billy, and he offered to listen to her with a friendly ear. Lily said she didn’t think he’d want to hear it, and before he left, Nick mentioned how impressive Lily’s work at Chancellor-Winters had been, and he wished her all the best in the new year.

Y&R Recap: Worth Fighting For

Chelsea was surprised to see Billy. He said he wanted to check on Connor’s project, but Chelsea didn’t buy it. He tried to deny it, but Chelsea pointed out that something was clearly wrong with Billy. He didn’t want to burden her with his problems, but Chelsea said she didn’t want them to have a one-sided friendship.

Billy admitted that Lily thought their relationship might be over. Chelsea freaked out, and she insisted that Billy make things right with Lily. Chelsea worried that it had to do with Billy spending too much time with her, but Billy denied that was the problem between him and Lily. Billy admitted that Lily wanted to call it quits because he was restless and self-centered. He pointed out that he’s constantly in need of the next best thing, which didn’t make him an ideal long-term partner.

Chelsea refused to let Billy speak about himself that way, and she said that he should make things right. Billy said he wanted to work on it, but it just wasn’t going to be enough. Chelsea pointed out how strong and loyal Billy was, but he still didn’t feel like he and Lily could make it work. Chelsea encouraged Billy to go get his second chance with Lily after he’d helped her get hers.

Billy texted Lily, asking her to meet. Lily showed up at Glam Club to meet Billy, and he thanked her for coming. Billy got straight to the point, and he told Lily that their relationship was worth saving. He revealed that he planned to fight for her. Lily explained how hurt she was when Billy didn’t put in any effort to make things work. Billy admitted that he’d messed up, and he apologized and promised to do whatever it takes to make things work. Lily agreed that they owed it to themselves to keep trying.

Back at home, Chelsea got a text from Connor asking Chelsea if they could have pizza with Johnny that week. Chelsea started to text Billy but instead texted Victoria, who started to say no, but she revised her text to say they could.
