A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Bad Advice & A Fist Pump

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

This was…not a good week. Not only did Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Eric (John McCook) go back to a (metaphorical) well that dried up way back in 1987 — “Fashion should be sleek and sexy!” … “No, fashion should be elegant and timeless!” — but the entire show seems to have entered a time warp and emerged somewhere in the 1950s where it was expected that women would endure marriage to most unsuitable mates “for the sake of the children.”

I literally blanched, flat-out gagged at Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) making a point of, “This is your life. This is your family,” spiel to Hope (Annika Noelle) as if Beth’s excitement on her birthday somehow justified a lifetime of suffering under the yoke of one of daytime’s greatest — worst ever? — wafflers. Thanks for the advice, Mom! (Also, Ms. Logan sure had no problems breaking up her family with Eric to once again pursue Ridge. Rick and Bridget who?)

That said, I did get a good belly laugh out of yet another person telling Finn (Tanner Novlan), to his face, that he was very much in the wrong and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) was right to put distance between them…if only prepubescent RJ (Joshua Hoffman) hadn’t immediately after towed the party line. What child roars at a nearly forty-year-old that the best present they can give their child is reuniting with someone they clearly want to wash their hands of? Sit down little boy and don’t speak until your grown and ready for a storyline of your very own!

Also, Steffy presenting Liam her cheek — when he really wanted those tasty lips — and then cooly advising him to exit stage right was *chef’s kiss.*

What do you think? Post a comment!

I’m not saying I actually fist-bumped the air, but I was certainly proud of Mrs. Finnegan that day. How lovely to see that in a sea of mess, B&B can get one, single, solitary thing right.

Further B&B Musings

* Man, it’s easy to forget that Heather Tom [Katie Logan] is actually an entity on this show…which is saying a lot considering she is a multi-Daytime Emmy Award-winning powerhouse. Way to hide your talent under a bushel B&B.

* What ratio of flashbacks/repeated verbatim dialogue to original material actually constitutes a “new episode”? Because I’m pretty sure that Friday’s airdate was a clip show by any other name, and the rest of the week barely avoided such a designation.
