Does anyone else think back to that long ago psychological horror-thriller The Bad Seed whenever General Hospital’s Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez) appears onscreen?

Charlotte: Trouble In The Making

The kid, who was manufactured by the evil Cassadine clan using Lulu’s (Emme Rylan) egg and Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) sperm, has gone from being naughty to fiendish in recent months. In fact, every day it becomes more clear that GH is molding Charlotte into Helena 2.0 – a youthful version of the diabolical Cassadine matriarch.

It all started with Charlotte emerging as her class bully when she led the charge against Aiden, Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) sweet, but quirky son. Remember when Lulu learned the truth and forced her daughter to apologize to her cousin? Charlotte did so, half-heartedly, but at the time it appeared she might be able to turn over a new leaf with her mom’s Lulu’s guidance.

The Tipping Point

However, all hope of that died when Charlotte’s dream of Nina and Valentin remarrying imploded, and her beloved stepmother-to-be dumped her father before the wedding. The move triggered the worst in the kid, who’s been acting out at everyone she blames for keeping the twosome apart, instead of focusing the blame on the real culprit, her duplicitous dad.

First, she cut up a picture of Sasha (Sofia Mattsson), the young woman Valentin hired to impersonate Nina’s daughter, at the Crimson office. Then she tripped Nina’s new beau Jax (Ingo Rademacher) at Kelly’s, causing him to fall smack on his butt in the middle of the diner. Plus, she vandalized Franco’s (Roger Howarth) sketch of Ava (Maura West) and followed that up by planting a snake in Ava’s purse at Violet’s birthday party.

Although Valentin quickly deduced that Charlotte was behind the snake caper and called out his daughter, she defended herself noting that Ava was their enemy. And she justified her actions by revealing she’d witnessed her dad push Ava off the roof at the Cassadine estate.

A stunned Valentin attempted to reason with his daughter, insisting his actions were wrong. Then he begged Laura (Genie Francis) to instill goodness in his little girl and went so far as to say he wouldn’t fight Lulu if she sought sole custody of Charlotte.

The problem is — it might be too late for a turnaround. After all, Charlotte not only has Valentin’s blood running through her veins but also evil Helena’s, too. And now that she’s had a taste of the dark side, there might be no going back.
