One Life To Live alum David A. Gregory, who portrayed Ford on the now-defunct ABC soap opera, will be heading down to North Carolina this April to star in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.
Life’s A Stage
Since leaving Llanview 13 years ago, Gregory has continued acting and ventured into writing. He expanded his television work with roles on Law & Order, Gossip Girl, Deception, Elementary, Constantine, The Good Fight, and Insatiable. In 2015, he wrote and produced Powder Burns, a Western podcast that earned him a Voice Arts Award in 2017. On stage, he starred as Juror #8 in a sold-out June 2023 production of Twelve Angry Men at The Powerhouse Theatre in New Canaan, Connecticut.
The actor will be starring in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, alongside his former OLTL character’s father, John Wesley Shipp (Eddie). The two men have worked together numerous times since their time playing father and son. Soap Hub got the opportunity to catch up with the actor to chat about life, his career and more! Soapy Tie-In
In February 2025, he and All My Children alum Lacey Chabert (Bianca) co-starred in a commercial campaign for Philosophy’s Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser. The campaign, presented as a satirical movie trailer, humorously parodied romantic comedies. In this spoof, Lacey portrays a woman disillusioned with love who returns to her hometown and reconnects with her first love, played by David.
From Cad To Dad
Gregory joined OLTL in August of 2009 as Robert Ford, who went by his last name. He arrived in Llanview as a womanizing film professor with a hidden past. He pursued Langston Wilde despite her relationship with Markko Rivera, leading to a secret affair. Meanwhile, he was also involved with Hannah O’Connor, a student who later attempted suicide after he dumped her. When Langston discovered Ford’s infidelity, Markko confronted him and later became the prime suspect when Ford was found brutally beaten. In truth, Eli Clarke had attacked Ford to silence him about Eli’s hidden identity.
Ford recovered and reconnected with his estranged brother, James, after James was shot during a ransom situation. Their mother, Inez, resurfaced, revealing that she had another son, Nate. Ford struggled to accept his family but grew closer to them over time. He later had a one-night stand with Jessica Brennan, who was suffering from memory loss and later became pregnant. Though Jessica initially believed Brody Lovett was the father, Ford eventually discovered he was the real father of baby Ryder.
To gain custody of Ryder, Ford married Jessica’s alter ego, Tess. Their marriage was chaotic, with Tess manipulating situations to her advantage. Eventually, she had the marriage annulled and ran off with Cutter Wentworth, leaving Ford devastated. After a bitter custody battle, Joey and Aubrey took temporary custody of Ryder, and Ford fought to reclaim his son.
In time, Jessica regained control of herself, and she and Ford bonded over their son. He renounced his playboy ways, genuinely falling in love with her. However, tragedy struck when Mitch Laurence took Jessica and Ryder hostage. Ford attempted to save them but was stabbed by Mitch. Right before OLTL went off the air on ABC, Ford died from his injuries in the hospital, with Jessica by his side, leaving behind his son, Ryder.
