The Young and the Restless alum, Kelly Sullivan, is headed to The Bold and the Beautiful. The veteran actress, who also starred on General Hospital, is set to play Dylan’s mom, Darcy. This key casting news means that the show is doubling down on Miss Dylan and investing in the popular character’s long-term future.

Key Takeaways

  • Y&R and GH alum Kelly Sullivan joins B&B as Dylan’s mother, Darcy.
  • Darcy’s arrival will reveal more about Dylan’s past and their family dynamic.
  • Expanding Dylan’s family signals that B&B is investing in her long-term future.

Kelly Sullivan is In at B&B

TV Insider broke the news of Sullivan’s hiring. The Y&R and GH alum will play Darcy Dylan, who arrives in Los Angeles to see her daughter, Dylan (Sydney Bullock, here are seven things to know about the actress). She began filming on Tuesday, August 4.

Sullivan’s soap credits include joining GH in 2011 as fashion magazine editor and Bensonhurst native, Kate Howard, aka Connie Falconeri. The actress followed that up with a stint on Y&R, where she played Sage Warner, a woman who was involved with both Adam and Nick Newman. Sage is the mother of Nick Newman’s son, Christian.

Ever since Sullivan’s Y&R character was killed off in 2016, she has continued to find work in primetime and streaming series. Her small-screen credits include the lead in the short-lived drama Tyler Perry’s Too Close to Home, which also starred Heather Locklear.

She has also appeared on Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, FOX’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, AppleTV’s The Morning Show, and The CW’s The Winchesters, a show that Days of our Lives alum Jensen Ackles executive-produced.

Dylan’s Mom Will Further Flesh Out the Character

Dylan’s mom joining the drama further expands the character’s family, which also features her troubled cousin, Remy Pryce (Christian Weissmann). Before Remy snuck into Forrester Creations’ offices and revealed himself to Dylan, she didn’t talk much about her family. The most she revealed is that she didn’t want them to know that she was homeless and living out of her car.

Adding Dylan’s mom, Darcy, into the mix means that fans will get to see Dylan in a potentially whole new light. Darcy could be someone else who will have her back. Or the exact opposite. We don’t know the nature of their relationship yet. But at the very least, they will have a lot to talk about regarding Dylan’s choices.

Her choice not to tell her mom how bad it got for her in L.A., and the choices that now see her smack dab in the middle of the drama between the Forrester and the Spencer families.

Casting Dylan’s Mom Means B&B is Investing in the Character

For Dylan fans, casting her mother is only good news. Not only does it provide more of the character’s backstory. But it will also add depth to what’s going on in the present. And it will provide fresh drama that won’t necessarily involve her love life.

Bringing on her mom also means the show is invested in Dylan. In a short time, she has evolved from an occasional art teacher to a Forrester employee who has sparked a connection with Will Spencer (Crew Morrow), to the detriment of her supposed best friend, Electra (Laneya Grace). They connected Dylan to Remy. And now her mother is headed to L.A. to stir up her world.

This bodes well for the character’s longevity on B&B’s canvas.
