Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of February 17-21 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful,, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

10. HIT: The Beyond the Gates press tour. It has been so great to see how CBS has been promoting BTG. There have been appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the five-part BTG: Welcome to the Neighborhood Special Entertainment Tonight produced, the Paley Center panel and screening, a billboard in Times Square, and more. This is a proper way to introduce a new soap.

9. MISS: Belle defends EJ (DAYS). Belle Black (Martha Madison) is tough and smart. And while we love her chemistry with EJ (Dan Feuerriegel), what we don’t love is the fact that she’s choosing not to see that he engineered Jada’s (Elia Cantu) humiliation and fall from grace. As Shawn (Brandon Beemer) said, she’s a bad friend.

8. HIT: Sheila conspires to get Bill to hire Remy (B&B). This week, Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) played a matchmaker of sorts and hooked Remy up with Bill (Don Diamont) to fix his broken AC system. However, she told Bill that his name was Dario instead of Remy (Christian Weissmann). And now Remy is in Bill’s house meeting Luna (Lisa Yamada). Sheila has been on simmer for such a long time that we’re actually at a point where we want her dark side to come roaring back.

7. MISS: Jack (Peter Bergman) and Diane (Susan Walters) tweak and refresh the Abbott Mansion (Y&R). While we approve of the project, we’re okay with not hearing the back-and-forth of how it’s all going to happen. These two recently ended a storyline where they were forced to argue, and even little meaningless debates about the revamping and redecoration are too much. And so is Jack obsessing over the refresh.

6. HIT: Detective Elizabeth Baldwin (GH). Anna (Finola Hughes) called GH’s head nurse a detective because Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) did a great job coming up with viable evidence and drawing conclusions from said evidence. It’s a wonder why we appreciated Liz’s Nancy Drew-ing more than Joss’s Nancy Drew-ing. Unfortunately, Joss doesn’t have the subtle touch that Elizabeth does. Also, Elizabeth went dumpster diving to get the goods on Cyrus (Jeff Kober)! That’s commitment. This all resulted in some of the best scenes of the week on any soap when the “angel of mercy” confronted Elizabeth.

5. MISS: Phyllis vanished (Y&R). We could be singing a different tune next week when we discover why Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) is missing. But this week, it feels too soon after the whole Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and Ian (Ray Wise) mess.

4. HIT: Ridge and Carter’s confrontation (B&B). While there were a lot of flaws and hypocrisies involved with their conversation, this meeting of the former besties was a long time coming. Overall, it was a good conversation sealed with tears and a hug. And so we felt for the fractured friendship. Kudos to Thorsten Kaye and Lawrence Saint-Victor. Is it just us or has Ridge shown more emotion in losing Carter than he has in losing Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang)?

3. HIT: There is movement in the Rafe and Ava kidnapping stories (DAYS). Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Steve (Stephen Nichols) found Ava (Tamara Braun) and freed her from the vintage chair of doom Rachel Blake (Ros Gentle) tied her to for what seemed like forever. Elsewhere at Aremid, Rafe (Galen Gering) freed himself but will undoubtedly meet a more nefarious fate if EJ is able to stick him with Dr. Rolf’s (Richard Wharton) CRS-17 concoction that will erase his short-term memory. Both Rafe and Ava were held captive for so long that we are happy there were major developments this week.

2. HIT: Damian and Amy start to hash things out (Y&R). There was finally a thawing between Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and Amy (Valarie Pettiford). He has every right to be upset over her lying to him his whole life. On the other hand, Amy has cancer, so his resentments need to take a backseat, and he needs to be there for his mom. That’s finally starting to look like it’ll happen.

1. MISS: Jonathan Jackson missed key Lucky & Liz moments (GH). This is no shade on the actors. We totally get that stuff happens and temp recasts are a part of the game. However, as happy as we were that Liz and Lucky reconnected with a kiss. We wish the big moment could have waited until Jonathan Jackson returned.

Honorable Mentions

GH

HIT: Tracy welcomes Jason home. It was a nice scene between Jane Elliot and Steve Burton.
MISS: Drew’s in-your-face tactics. Drew’s meeting with Laura (Genie Francis), Curtis (Donnell Turner), and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) was a study in smugness and entitlement. He feels he can bring down Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jason (Steve Burton) because of some perceived slights. Laura doesn’t seem swayed. She’s getting bad vibes from Drew (Cameron Mathison), and that’s a lot, considering that she was acting anti-Sonny up until recently. And don’t get us started on the face-off Drew had with Jason. He rejected his twin’s offer of a truce because of those slights and resentments.

DAYS

HIT: Shawn and Jada. We’re warming up to these two. Jada needs a win right now, and if that win is Shawn Brady, we’re cool with that. Their chemistry is starting to build.
MISS: Arnold Feniger. While some of his actions could be laughed off, this week, not so much. The way he treated Belle and Jada was unacceptable. He needs to go back to South America.

Y&R

HIT: Michael updates Lauren. Tracey Bregman and Christian Le Blanc work so well together. Despite it being a conversation that seemed a little too late, we’re glad that Michael informed his wife of what went down the night Ian “died.” We’re fans of whenever these two get to love each other, worry for each other, and reprimand each other.
MISS: Victor doubles, triples, and quadruples down on revenge against Jack. The fact that it’s all over the night Jack went to the extreme to save Nikki just doesn’t warrant this scorched earth reaction.

B&B

HIT: Finn feels the weight of Luna being his daughter and tells Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Li (Naomi Matsuda) about that matter. While we’re not a fan of Finn (Tanner Novlan) taking so long to tell his wife that Luna is his daughter, we get why he’s fearful of doing the deed. It’s weighing on his face and every move. We feel bad for the guy.
MISS: Brooke begs Ridge to come back…again. Cut him loose, Brooke.
