General Hospital has become notorious for Thanksgiving episodes thanks to the oh-so-drama-filled Quartermaine family and their pizza tradition.

Key Takeaways

  • The tradition began in 1994.
  • A song also became part of the Quartermaine family Thanksgiving pizza tradition.
  • Why does the tradition need to continue on GH?

Three Decades Of Quartermaine Thanksgiving Disasters

Long-time GH fans will recall that the Quartermaine clan used to have a normal Thanksgiving that consisted of fighting and a feast. However, all of that changed in 1994, when Annabelle the dog literally ate the Thanksgiving meal, and a new tradition was born.

Amid a classic Quartermaine family fight, featuring Edward (John Ingle) and Monica (Leslie Charleson) lashing out at each other, Annabelle the dog took a break from the drama to feast. In true fashion, Lila (Anna Lee) took charge, forcing the family to sit down, shut up, and listen to her.

Once things calmed down, Alan (Stuart Damon), Monica, Lila, Edward, AJ (Sean Kanan), Jason (Steve Burton), and Ned (Wally Kurth) made their way to the dining room. Much to their dismay, it was in disarray.

Ned suggests pizza in a hilarious manner. Before sitting down to eat the pizza, Lila made a comment about “The Song,” and the family sang together, sparking another tradition.

Each year for the past two decades, some kind of disaster has prevented the Quartermaine family from having a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Instead, somehow they always end up sitting down to a pizza dinner.

While a fan on X who reshared the iconic 1994 Thanksgiving declared the pizza traditions should have ended over a decade ago, we disagree. The pizza tradition has become something we look forward to each year.

Even though we know it’s coming, seeing how the Quartermaine family always ends up together eating pizza is a must-see every Thanksgiving. It’s a classic soap tradition, like the hanging of the Horton family Christmas ornaments on Days of our Lives.
