Soap Opera News: Big GH Return and Recast

GH is back with new episodes on Monday, August 3. You can catch up on where key stories left off here.

One of the soap’s most beloved leading men is back on set filming, while a popular leading lady has been recast with a familiar daytime alumna.

DAYS Cast Speaking Out

Greg Vaughan opened up about his decision to leave Days of Our Lives, after a long run as Eric Brady. Meanwhile, his TV mom, Deidre Hall (Marlena) revealed her admiration for Vaughan’s life choices.

Eric Martsolf addressed what’s next for Brady, who left town with Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) a few weeks back, challenging his inner Arnold Schwarzenegger voice. And Galen Gering (Rafe) has been populating his Instagram feed with behind-the-scenes photos and videos, leading up to his exit from the soap.

BB Ratings Coup

The Bold and the Beautiful was the first soap to return with new episodes. last week. Viewers tuned in, pushing the soap to the top of the daytime ratings heap.

Actor Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter), who’s been a recurring actor on the soap, has been rewarded with a new contract. Will a new storyline follow?

On the YR Front

During The Young and the Restless’ retro episode focused on Cassie’s death, Camryn Grimes, who now plays Mariah on the soap, live-tweeted about the tear-jerker twist — and revealed some backstage secrets from that fateful day.

Also on the retro front, Michael Damian, who played fan-favorite Danny, noted that he’s been busy with some other projects. However, he isn’t ruling out a return to the soap once it returns.

Kristian Alfonso (Hope, DAYS) revealed a major secret about the casting of Bo Brady. You’ll never guess which Hollywood superstar auditioned for the part but didn’t get it.

Late Soap Star’s Identity Stolen

It’s been a difficult year for Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, All My Children) who lost her former husband, John Callahan (ex-Edmund, AMC), who died of a stroke in March. Now she reports that his identity was stolen before his demise.

GH Behind the Scenes

Condolences to Emme Rylan (Lulu, GH). Her sister, Lara, who had been diagnosed with stage four cancer, tragically passed away.

BB’s Ashley (Bridget) shared news of some difficult dark times she’s endured over the past year. And co-star Annika Noelle (Hope) addressed feelings of isolation and helplessness in the midst of a global pandemic, ecological crisis, and social injustices.
