It’s been a troubling year for daytime vet Eva LaRue who lost her ex-husband—fellow soap star John Callahan who died of a stroke at the age of 66 in March—and recently learned Callahan’s identity was stolen in a home burglary not long after his tragic passing.

Shocking John Callahan News

LaRue and Callahan, who fell in love playing supercouple Maria and Edmund on All My Children, are parents to 18-year-old daughter Kaya and the actress worries about this disturbing news.

“It has definitely been a roller coaster because not only is my daughter grieving so hard, but I’m grieving separately in my way, too, because he has been my great friend,” LaRue told Fox News, as reported by People. “And at the same time, somebody broke into his house right after he died and stole his identity, his car, his laptop. They have been taking out loans and credit cards in his name and they’ve siphoned money out of his bank account—it’s been a nightmare. A nightmare.”

The actress, who recently took home a Daytime Emmy in the guest category for playing Lola’s mom, Celeste on The Young and the Restless, told People that trying to rectify the situation has been a long, involved process.

“As you can imagine, every phone call is being put on hold for like 20 minutes or an hour or two hours, and then people being like, ‘I’m sorry, we can’t help you.’ It’s just like a bureaucratic nightmare,” LaRue said. “Every phone call that we make to try to fix the situation is just insane.”

While she feels progress is being made, and that the wagons are circling around the alleged perpetrator, waiting for him to be caught has just added to the havoc that the family has experienced over the last four months.

When Callahan died, LaRue released a loving statement to the man who also was notable for his roles as Leo Russell on General Hospital, Eric Stavros on Falcon Crest,  Craig Hunt on Santa Barbara, and Dr. Richard Baker on Days of our Lives.

“The absence of his bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever,” she said at the time. “Words cannot express the shock and devastation we are feeling at this time. The Yankees just lost one of their greatest fans.”
