The Y&R recap for Thursday, January 5, 2023, brings shocking moves, a huge argument, a confession, a secret, and so much more.
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) fought over Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), while Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) left Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) stunned. Abby Newman Abbott (Melissa Ordway) took off her wedding ring as Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) realized Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) was connected to Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver). Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) encouraged Daniel Romalotti (Michael Grazaidei), while Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) did the same for Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Now let’s take a deeper look at what happened.
Jack and Ashley clashed over Diane…again. Jack pointed out that Diane hadn’t caused Ashley issues since her return to town, but Ashley noted that it was only because Diane hadn’t even been given a chance. Ultimately, Jack insisted that Diane was part of the family, but Ashley wouldn’t accept that. She said she couldn’t forgive the viper, and Jack thought it was rich Ashley talking about vipers in the family.
Ashley and her allies against Diane are small, petty, and mean. Jack insisted that Diane changed, but Ashley pointed out that Diane was never overtly evil, and she insisted Diane hadn’t changed. She reminded her brother Diane wasn’t helpless. They continued arguing, and Ashley calmly stated that Diane was the reason their family was in danger, and Jack invited Ashley to stay elsewhere if she couldn’t handle who he invited into his home.

Ashley was not impressed. She said she belonged in the family home as much as Jack did — it’s her home too. Ashley said she wouldn’t be forced out because of his sick obsession with Diane. She declared that Diane would never ever — not ever — be welcome in their home or company.
Kyle and Diane went to breakfast and later showed up at the office together. Summer wasn’t at all pleased to see them. She had wanted to talk to Kyle, but then when he asked, Summer played it off as Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) needing to take some personal time. Kyle told his mom that Mariah and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) were hoping to adopt a baby, and Diane said they’d be wonderful mothers. Summer pointed out that Diane barely even knew them, but her mother-in-law countered that she’d seen their bond at Tessa’s photoshoot.
Summer left to do something with files in Jack’s office, and Diane’s phone rang. Kyle looked stricken when his mom said hello to Jeremy. She wrapped up her call, and Kyle wondered if his mom was always going to be at Jeremy’s beck and call. She reminded her son that it was all part of the plan. Kyle wanted to tell Jack, but Diane didn’t want Jack following her. Kyle said he didn’t want his mom dating a criminal, but she reminded him that she was as tough as everybody always said. Diane had it all under control.
Kyle found Summer, and he wanted to know what was really wrong. She surprised Kyle by saying she wanted to take Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez) with her to a textile show in Italy.
Devon and Abby made plans for their day. She had to go home to change to keep everybody from talking about her wearing the same outfit two days in a row. Devon picked up on some hesitancy, and Abby admitted that the Chancellor mansion didn’t feel like home since she was not a Chancellor. Devon urged Abby to take things slowly and take her time figuring out what was best for her and Dominic.
At Glam Club, Daniel had texted Heather about his new game, but she replied that Lucy needed more time. Abby showed up, and she was thrilled to see Daniel. She sat down to talk with him while she waited on Noah. She asked when Heather and Lucy were coming, but Daniel said he didn’t know for sure. Abby played it off as them being busy, and Daniel didn’t correct her.
Abby mentioned introducing Daniel to Dominic, and then she revealed that she and Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) had split up, and Daniel was surprised. He took his leave to go to a meeting with Lily. She sat alone at the club, texting Noah. Abby tearfully took off her wedding ring and put it in her purse.
Audra and Lily chatted about the Initial Public Offering. Devon walked in, and he was taken aback that the plans were moving forward without his input. Audra got a text, and Devon wondered what it was. She stepped outside to deal with the text, and Lily and Devon argued about the IPO. She told her brother to call Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) to ask her the questions, but that the whole thing was moving forward.
The siblings continued arguing back and forth about the idea of taking the company public. Devon pointed out that they were making money as things were. Lily finally said she and Jill were for it, and they overruled him. She finally asked her brother to provide some concrete evidence instead of a vague feeling. Lily said she wanted Devon to support her, and he said he was going to spend his time finding a legitimate reason to stop the IPO. He left because Lily had to get some work done.
Audra showed up at Tucker’s hotel suite, furious that he’d taken her away from her meeting at Chancellor-Winters. She updated Tucker that Devon wasn’t on board, and she pointed out that Devon was right to be suspicious. Tucker yelled that everything he planned was for Devon’s own good. Audra yelled some more about his interruption, and she left to go back to her meeting.
Devon showed up at Society, asking about Abby, but she wasn’t there. Tucker showed up, and they sat down together. Devon admitted that he was stressed over Chancellor-Winters, and he said he wanted his autonomy back. Tucker understood how his son felt, and he suggested that Devon take Hamilton Winters out of the merger and take back control — Tucker even knew somebody who could help.
Devon appreciated his dad’s insight, and as he prepared to leave, Tucker’s phone chimed with the same one Audra’s had used earlier. Tucker claimed it came with the phone. However, it piqued Devon’s interest, and he called somebody to research the connection between his dad and Audra.
At Crimson Lights, Lily ran into Daniel. They chatted, and he tried to lie and say he was doing well. Ultimately, Daniel opened up, and he said he made mistakes in Savannah. He stopped respecting Heather as a strong woman who could make her own decisions, and it trickled down to Lucy. He blamed it all on a rough patch professionally. Daniel also credited Lily and Devon for helping him get back on his feet, which he hoped would win back the women in his life.
Lily had to go to an appointment. Daniel noticed she was anxious, but she declined to elaborate. Lily expressed her faith in Daniel and left. On her way out, she got a text from Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) wondering where she was, and she looked over at Daniel before she left.
Adam wondered if Sally was okay, and she was upset that Adam wasn’t leaving her alone. He thought she looked like she was hiding, and Sally told him to mind his business. She was having tea and making a phone call, and she just wanted privacy, which Adam thought was odd at Crimson Lights.
Adam told Sally he was worried about her since she didn’t look like herself, and she turned it around, insinuating that Nick was keeping her up at night. Even though he wasn’t welcome, Adam took a seat and continued their conversation. He reiterated that they were done, and he remembered their time together fondly. Sally changed tact and told Adam that concerns about her new business were keeping her night at night. Adam let Sally know he believed in her and showered her with praise.
Sally wondered what he was up to, and Adam tried to leave — finally rebuffed. Sally stopped him, and she apologized for being in such a bad mood, blaming it on having too much on her plate. Adam encouraged Sally to tell him anything, but she said she would love to but wasn’t sure…about anything.
Sally didn’t know why Adam was being so nice to her. She wanted to know his angle, but Adam insisted that he had no angle. Adam said that Sally was always going to be very special to him, and they would always have a connection. He invited her to talk to him if she ever needed to, and Sally thanked Adam as she left to go to an appointment. Sally went home and looked at first-trimester literature and wondered what she should do.
