The Young and the Restless recap for Friday, January 26, 2024, featured some surprising moves from Diane.
Also in this episode, Nate and Audra moved closer to an alliance after Audra shot down Tucker’s declaration of love. Jack tried to get Ashley to stay home, but she left for Paris with Traci by her side. In addition, Cole updated Victoria on Claire’s progress. Now, let’s dig deeper into what happened.
At Crimson Lights, Esther (Kate Linder) congratulated Diane (Susan Walters) on her co-CEO position at Jabot. Diane thanked her, acknowledging that now she had to prove herself. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) arrived, greeted Esther warmly, and addressed Diane wryly.
Esther left to get cupcakes to celebrate Diane’s promotion, and Diane took the opportunity to ask about Nikki’s well-being. Nikki, assuming Jack (Peter Bergman) had informed Diane of everything, told her it was none of her business, grabbed some tea, and headed outside. Diane followed, and outside, she told Nikki about the hardships she faced.

Nikki had described the night of Diane’s faked death, and they exchanged reminders of past events, including Diane hitting Nikki with a rock. Diane had acknowledged the progress they had made since then and expressed acceptance of Jack’s support.
Diane wanted to sit at Nikki’s table, emphasizing that things didn’t need to be contentious. She apologized if Nikki was struggling and expressed empathy for the pain Nikki might be going through. Diane mentioned Jack’s support and anticipated that Victor might not like it. Nikki was waiting for the real Diane to emerge, suspecting she might use the whole situation against her.
However, Diane surprised Nikki by expressing goodwill, hoping Nikki would get through her difficulties. Nikki reluctantly thanked her, and they found a moment of common ground. Nikki had wished Diane well and excused herself.
In her room at the Athletic Club, Nate (Sean Dominic) assumed that Audra (Zuleyka Silver) believed they had potential. Audra had leaned in, touched his tie, and assured him of her rarely being wrong about such matters. Interrupted by someone at the door, Audra had asked him not to move, promising they weren’t finished. It was Tucker (Trevor St. John) at the door, questioning their activities and being told to mind his business. She agreed to give him five minutes, and Audra saw Nate off, making plans to meet later for a drink.
Tucker grinned, suspecting Audra was up to something. Brushing off his curiosity, she affirmed her commitment to focusing on Glissade. Tucker expressed dissatisfaction with Ashley’s behavior, claiming she would never change. He wanted to be with Audra, presenting his vision of a shared future. Audra, skeptical, said that she wouldn’t settle for being someone’s second choice.
Tucker insisted that Audra meant more to him, describing the joy he felt when he saw her. Audra countered that she wouldn’t be a woman someone settled for, prompting Tucker to plead for her not to pull away. Despite his efforts, Audra asked him to leave, and once he did, she hesitated at the door before grabbing her bag and leaving.
Nate found Victoria (Amelia Heinle) in the dining room at the Athletic Club, and they discussed Nikki’s struggles. Nate asked about Claire. They had talked about Claire’s progress, with Nate praising her resilience. Victoria had thanked Nate for being there for her.
Cole (J. Eddie Peck) joined them, and after introductions, Nate left. The two “new” parents discussed Victoria and Nate’s past relationship. Victoria had shared the story, calling Nate a good man. Cole revealed good news about Claire’s improvements, and they agreed that small steps would lead to healing.
Audra encountered Nate, and they discussed Tucker’s grandiose plans. Nate suggested that Audra was the one Tucker counted on, and Audra sneered. They discussed a potential partnership, with Nate expressing skepticism about Tucker’s board members at Glissade and Audra acknowledging the need for a good strategy.
Jack found Ashley (Eileen Davidson) at home, and she revealed her plan to go to Paris to get answers about Tucker. Jack questioned the wisdom of her decision. Ashley expressed doubts about herself, feeling the need to prove she wasn’t lying by taking her power back. Jack warned her against it, but Ashley insisted it was a proactive step to strengthen herself.
Traci (Beth Maitland) entered with tea, and Jack expressed frustration that Ashley had left on a trip to Paris. Traci thought it was a rational decision, but Jack worried about their sister’s mental state. They argued, and Jack begged Traci not to let Ashley do anything she’d regret.
Jack stormed into Jabot, expressing his frustration to Diane about Ashley’s impromptu trip to Paris. He voiced concerns about Tucker’s influence on his sister, feeling he was taking advantage of her brilliance. Diane surprised him and sided with Ashley.
Ashley, on the Abbott jet, put on her seatbelt, recalling Tucker’s outburst at the cafe and his suggestion to head to Paris for the truth. Traci surprised Ashley by sitting next to her, expressing her love and support.
At Newman Media, Nikki arrived at work, distracted, and Audra presented numbers from the Asian market. Nikki yelled at Audra, who offered to handle whatever was on her plate. Nikki told her not to rush off, assuring Audra that she wouldn’t break. Audra acknowledged Nikki’s struggles, and Nikki wished she hadn’t shared that private fact with the younger woman.
