Phyllis Summers has spent what feels like the last several years on The Young and the Restless shrieking about how Diane letting Kyle think she was dead was the worst thing any parent could ever do to a child. Diane should never, ever be forgiven. And, to make her point, Phyllis has decided to…fake her death. We’re sure she expects Summer and Daniel to forgive her, though. But we have to ask: Should they?
Of course, they’ll forgive her, 6% of you have no doubts. Summer (Allison Lanier) and Daniel will be so devastated about losing their mother that they will, in retrospect, forgive her every misdeed, including how she’s manipulated both of them over the past few months. Summer and Daniel know better than to speak ill of the dead. And Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) is really dead. She wouldn’t ever fake something like this. She isn’t Diane (Susan Walters).
Phyllis may not see that she is acting exactly like Diane, but 40% of the audience certainly does. Which is why you are confident neither of her children will ever forgive Phyllis Summers for putting them through such pain. Summer almost passed out when she heard, then promptly went into denial. Daniel was crushed. This isn’t something you ever forget – or forgive.
We don’t know what really happened yet, 54% of voters caution. Sure, Phyllis and Jeremy (James Hyde) spent multiple weeks talking about their clever plan and how they were going to set Diane up and get her for good. But we don’t know that this has anything to do with their plan. This could all have happened spontaneously. Phyllis might be completely innocent. Once her kids hear that, they’ll be so relieved, they’ll forgive her anything. And Phyllis will be the winner.
