Last week on The Young and the Restless, Chelsea Lawson was so distraught that she tried to commit suicide. This week, after a couple of chats with a doctor who had just met her and barely had time to take a medical history – especially one as intricate as Chelsea’s – she was certified all good now and released.
Now she has a new place to live, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) to cater to her every need, and is about to reunite with precious Connor Newman (Judah Mackey). So is Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) all better?
As long as Chelsea keeps up with her therapy – presumably off-screen – then 63% of you are also happy to declare Chelsea cured. She chatted with a doctor, she chatted with Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), and she made it clear to two men that they need to put her needs ahead of anything else they may have going on in their lives, so what else does she need for a full recovery?
Those with even a cursory knowledge of mental health issues scoff that Chelsea is anywhere near healthy, and 21% of the audience would like to see her put in a lot more work – preferably on-screen – to really address not just her current issues, but what caused them. Chelsea spent so many years as a con artist, you’re afraid she’s up and conned herself.
And then there are the 16% who agree with Chelsea’s doctor: She is good to go. Didn’t you hear the doctor? Chelsea “did some serious work.” So what if we didn’t see it. Who’s the professional here, you or the day player? Chelsea’s suicide attempt was like the stomach flu. Twenty-four hours, and you feel like it never happened.
