Mamma Mia: Young and the Restless Baby Drama Sets Up Heartache

On The Young and the Restless, Abby Chancellor’s recent choices regarding Dominic — leaving him behind to live with his biological father Devon Hamilton — leave us saying, “my goodness.”

What is Abby Doing on Young and the Restless?

Abby (Melissa Ordway) designated both Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) as Dominic’s guardians should something happen to her or Chance. Sadly, authorities fear the worst might have happened with Chance, and Abby is presumably a widow.

Bizarrely, Abby seems convinced that as a widow, she can’t take care of her son. This idea is insulting to the widowed parents who continue to soldier on with their children every single day. In fact, Abby also has the help of at least three grandparents and her siblings in addition to her friends (oh, and a nanny).

We see that part of Abby’s plan in leaving Dominic with his biological father, Devon (Bryton James) and his girlfriend, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan), is to sneak away to search for Chance. Although her Young and the Restless family and friends advised Abby against that plan, she’s determined to discover what authorities can’t — her husband alive.

Heartbreak Hotel

The thing is, it makes absolutely no sense for Abby to take Dominic to Devon and Amanda’s penthouse. This situation sets Devon up for intense heartbreak. Either that, or it paves the way for Devon to ask to revise their contract. With Chance returning soon, we foresee some major drama.

While drama makes the soap opera turn, in this case, the storyline is so illogical that it’s difficult for us to enjoy the anticipation of the inevitable fireworks. Not only could Nina Webster (Tricia Cast), Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), or Ashley help care for Dominic, there’s also Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) to help.

Even Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) could conceivably step up if his nephew really needed him. With so many options, leaving Dominic with Devon makes little sense. It’s especially troublesome since he’s at risk of bonding so much with Dominic that he can’t stand not to have a parental role in the baby’s life.
