And that sigh heard around the land was The Young and the Restless finally ending their ridiculous Jack isn’t John’s son story.
Whether it was always supposed to play out like this, or the fan pushback made them change horses mid-stream, who cares?
Ashley (Eileen Davidson) confessed it was all a long con to get back at Jack (Peter Bergman) for his using her own paternity against her, and if Dina (Marla Adams) suffered, well, it was all her fault in the first place.
No more grave-robbing for Kyle (Michael Mealor), no more Jack wondering if he might have accidentally slept with a half-sister.
Are you happy to put a pin in this story? Almost 11,000 viewers had this to say:
Thank Goodness!
A whopping 98% of you are doing everything short of dancing in the streets at the notion of Genoa City being set right again.
True, the story makes more sense now that we know Ashley set it all up than when we were supposed to believe that Jack wasn’t John’s son despite Dina constantly confusing the two of them.
The only evidence was a confused, sick woman – who, granted, did sleep around a lot in her heyday – and a photo Jack found in an old safety deposit box which showed every patriarch who ever passed through Wisconsin. But you are still overjoyed to see the backend of this tale and hope it never gets referenced ever again.
Outliers
Only 2% is willing to admit they wanted to see more. It was kind of fun watching Jack lose his traditional confidence and have to go searching for who he was outside of John Abbott’s son.
There was good material to mine there, and now it will never come to pass. Jack as a Chancellor or a Newman would have introduced a new dynamic and lots of new story paths. Now, it’s back to the same old same old.
