Justin Hartley made his final appearance as Adam Newman on The Young and the Restless last week as his character was seemingly blown to smithereens.

It’s the third time Y&R fans have had to say goodbye to an actor portraying Victor’s black sheep son, Adam, and the second time the character has been declared dead. During Justin Hartley’s tenure in the role, he helped transform the formerly villainous Adam into a softer, more heroic leading man. In the process, he amassed a devoted following. Soap Hub asked fans to weigh in on his exit from the show.

Pass the Kleenex
Tears flowed from 62% of you, as you watched the safe house where Adam had taken refuge blow up to smithereens. Knowing he’d been drugged by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) before the blast and was nearing unconsciousness, it came as no surprise that he was declared dead. Justin Hartley’s demise as Adam was devastating for fans, who had come to love his portrayal of the controversial character. The thought of Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and young Connor going on without Adam in their lives only added to their heartbreak.

He’s Moving On Up
Having suspected that Hartley would be leaving The Young and the Restless for weeks, 37% of you braced yourself and were prepared for his exit. You remained composed, despite the tragic circumstances of Adam’s death. It might be because you know you’ll still be able to watch Hartley on the new NBC primetime series, This Is Us.

Taking It in Stride
A teensey 1% took Hartley’s departure in stride. He’s not the first popular actor you’ve endured leaving your favorite soap, and he definitely won’t be the last.
