Why Phyllis and Summer Need To Butt Out on Young and the Restless

On The Young and the Restless, it’s a case of like mother like daughter, as both Phyllis Summers and Summer Newman Abbott seem to be under the impression that they know best — well, definitely better than the men in their lives, even when it comes to their own children.

Young and the Restless: Where Do You Fit In?

Up until this week on The Young and the Restless, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) were just pals. Sure, they’d been married before, but they weren’t now, and Phyllis had turned down Jack’s offer of a renewed romantic relationship. Yet, Phyllis did not let that stop her from lecturing Jack about what he should do about his ex, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) returning from the dead and begging for a relationship with their son, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).

While Jack took the ridiculous stance of letting Kyle meet his mother and make his own decisions, Phyllis kept knocking on Diane’s hotel room door and proceeding to order her out of town and away from her son. How is this any — any! — of Phyllis’s business? Even if she and Jack are sleeping together again?

Y&R’s Stepmother Dearest

At least Summer (Allison Lanier) has a little more legal and moral standing as Harrison Locke’s (Kellen Enriquez) stepmother, but does that mean she gets to make all the unilateral decisions for the boy?

When the couple ran into Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) in the park and he asked to spend some time with his son, Kyle could barely get a word in edgewise as Summer informed Ashland he would be having no contact with the child he’d raised from now on.

Young and the Restless: No Legal Standing

Kyle stood there, mouth half-open, nodding furiously as Summer laid down the law and set terms — ignoring the tiny detail that Ashland is Harrison’s legal father, Kyle is his biological one…and Summer has no standing there at all. But if Phyllis were there, she’d take over — so why not Summer, too?
