When Chance Chancellor was recast on The Young and the Restless, viewers waited to find out why the character needed to come back from the dead. Not that we’re looking to make Abby Chancellor a widow or deprive Dominic Of the Many Names of one of his two dads. But we were having trouble figuring out what his story purpose was in Genoa City.
Young and the Restless: Safe at Home
There was good story to be mined from Chance’s (Conner Floyd) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or his re-adjustment to married life, not to mention figuring out how to share Dominic with Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) — after the latter swore he wanted no role in the tot’s life at all.
But all those potentially interesting tales went nowhere. We didn’t even get to see Chance’s therapy sessions after the first one or how he became the only police officer in the Genoa City Police Department. He just kind of…faded away.
Y&R: Look Who’s Back – And Better Than Ever
Now, however, it looks like Chance is getting his second wind. Instead of frowning at Abby (Melissa Ordway) or instantly giving in to all of Devon’s demands, he actually has a story — and a life — of his own. Chance is investigating Ashland Locke’s (Robert Newman) death — which pits him head to head against Victor Newman (Eric Newman), who also happens to be his father-in-law.
We Need a Young and the Restless Hero
Victor barked at Chance and told him never to point the finger at him again — literally and figuratively. Victor only barks at people who hit a nerve. (With people who haven’t, he just gives orders.) It’s nice to see someone finally hit a nerve with Victor. It’s been a while. It’s making Chance more interesting than he’s ever been and setting up a potentially explosive story for him and Abby. Keep it up, Y&R! We like!
