The Young and the Restless viewers know that Jack Abbott will do whatever he needs to protect Kyle Abbott and Harrison Locke. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Jack’s portrayer, Peter Bergman.
This week, Bergman really brought some fire this week for Jack. One notable scene featured him and Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) in his office at Jabot. He brought out the full arsenal using his facial expressions, body language, and the tone of his voice to make it clear that he wasn’t buying her victim act. When he realized Diane nearly gave out Jabot secrets, he slammed a file onto the desk forcefully.
However, Diane managed to win him over by bringing up Ashley Abbott’s (Eileen Davidson) involvement in the push to run her out of town. The moment things changed, Bergman softened Jack’s eyes and face, and his tone of voice slowly went from anger and disbelief to sympathy and then back to anger when he realized Ashley was still doing something that could harm Kyle (Michael Mealor).
Then, when Jack showed up at the Abbott mansion to read Ashley the riot act, a visibly upset Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) was there, and Bergman was able to infuse the love Jack felt for his niece into his greeting while instantly switching gears to his barely contained anger at Ashley.
The moment Abby left, Bergman made it clear Ashley was in the hot seat with Jack. He even used the subtle addition of Jack removing his jacket and putting it on the couch to reveal just how furious Jack was with his sister.
Kudos to Peter Bergman on an excellent performance. We so enjoyed seeing Jack’s fire this week as he navigated the growing issue within his family.
