The Young and the Restless viewers know that Victor Newman is the most powerful man in Genoa City. He’s all about business and family…preferably together. Of course, his family sometimes has other ideas, which causes him plenty of dismay. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Victor’s portrayer, Eric Braeden.
Eric Braeden: Y&R Performer of the Week
This week, Victor learned some disappointing news about his youngest son, Adam (Mark Grossman). Braeden had Victor listen carefully as Audra (Zuleyka Silver) relayed the details of Adam’s blackmail scheme to him. We appreciated seeing Victor interacting with the scheming businesswoman, and he seemed to realize that she was all about herself, but he is savvy enough to realize that, in this instance, she did the right thing for Newman Enterprises.
Of course, Victor looked a bit more skeptical when Nate (Sean Dominic) visited him to try to smooth things over. He said all the right things, but it seemed like The Mustache had something else going on between the lines, and Braeden did a great job playing that. The outcome of Nate’s visit seemed somewhat ambiguous, and that was thanks to the actor’s choices.
However, perhaps Braeden’s most compelling scenes of the week came when Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) begged her husband to look at his relationship with Adam. She couldn’t stand seeing him get hurt again, and Victor really took her words to heart. Braeden sat looking sad as he contemplated the entire situation, and we really felt the depth of pain that Victor felt over his failures with Adam. He finally agreed with Nikki that he might need to reassess things with his youngest son, despite all the terrible things Adam dealt with as a child.
Bravo, Eric Braeden, on a week full of excellent performances! We absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next in this situation and see how Victor manages to orchestrate things for his family. Who knows? Perhaps there will be some harmony…at least briefly.
