Here’s Who Might Get Nominated from Young and the Restless for the 51st Daytime Emmys

Young and the Restless has been bringing home the gold with Daytime Emmys for acting ever since 1985 when Beth Maitland (Traci) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren) won their awards for, respectively, Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Ingenue. How might the show’s cast fare when this year’s nominations are announced on Friday? Soap Hub is doing some speculating on this very topic!

And the Emmy Goes To…

Soap Hub honored numerous performances from Y&R last year with our Performer of the Week feature. While nobody can predict with 100% accuracy who’ll get a nod for this year, we’re looking back at some of the finest work done in Genoa City last year, which may indicate who’ll be going home with gold this June when the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are broadcast on CBS.

Outstanding Lead Actress: Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) had some dynamite performances as her character was kidnapped and an IV of vodka (!) was fed into her arm. Nikki’s had some worthy adversaries over the years and her showdowns with Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) remain must-see TV. Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) was compelling as her character kept digging herself into trouble with Jeremy Hunter (James Hyde). Sharon Case (Sharon) reminded viewers that there’s nothing quite like a mother’s love when she took Cameron Kirsten down after her daughter Faith (Reylynn Caster) was kidnapped.

Outstanding Supporting Actress: Allison Lanier (Summer) is about to celebrate two years on Y&R and last year, the show threw her into the deep end as her character fully realized the depths of her mother’s machinations after she faked her death. Then, we saw Summer’s marriage come to an end. Courtney Hope (Sally) took her character on an emotional roller coaster as she was torn between two brothers — Adam (Mark Grossman) and Nicholas (Joshua Morrow). Lauralee Bell (Christine) sweetly revisited a romance that years ago ended unfairly when Danny (Michael Damian) and Christine were separated by Phyllis’s lies.

What do you think? Post a comment!

Outstanding Lead Actor: Peter Bergman played Jack as a passionate husband, defending his maligned bride Diane (the always terrific Susan Walters). Eric Braeden (Victor) never veers from his role as the commanding patriarch of the Newman clan. Victor both controls and defends his family members like no one else.

Outstanding Supporting Actor: Jason Thompson (Billy) shines in both boardroom machinations and in his scenes against Mark Grossman’s Adam. Trevor St. John plays Tucker’s disdain for everyone and everything around him with aplomb. Right when we think Tucker doesn’t care, St. John will reveal that he does indeed.

Outstanding Guest Performer: How great is it to see Colleen Zenk, beloved as Barbara on As the World Turns, back on a CBS soap opera? Her turn as wicked Jordan has been “simply” (IYKYK) fabulous! Linden Ashby stepped back into his role as bad guy Cameron Kirsten effortlessly as did Veronica Redd who brought Mamie Johnson back for Y&R’s 50th anniversary. Y&R had numerous guest appearances last year all of whom could make the ballot.

Who do you think should be nominated for a Daytime Emmy from Young and the Restless? Sound off in the comments below. The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are set to air on Friday, June 7 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on CBS.
