The Young and the Restless viewers know that Diane Jenkins is extremely grateful that the charges of murdering Phyllis have been dropped. She’s ready to get on with the second chance that both Jack and Kyle were finally able to give her. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R are presented to Diane’s portrayer, Susan Walters.

Susan Walters: Y&R Performer of the Week

This week, Diane got absolutely stir-crazy at the Abbott mansion, waiting for the charges against her to be dismissed. Walters made it seem like her on-screen alter ego was about to lose it completely as she attempted to run out the front door. In addition to the words she said, her tone of voice and body language showed just how horribly pent-up Diane felt.

Then, her disbelief and jubilation after Christine (Lauralee Bell) and Michael (Christian Le Blanc) told her she was free were almost entirely created by the actress’s choices in movement, facial expressions, and tone of voice. Susan Walters truly Diane’s absolute joy and relief as they told her, and throughout as she and Jack (Peter Bergman) celebrated at Society and later, the Genoa City Athletic Club.

Perhaps the best moments came when people noticed Diane was out and about. First, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) confronted Diane, intent on calling the police because she thought Diane had broken bail. The look of glee that Walters gave Diane said everything without her even uttering a word. Later, when Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) confronted her at the GCAC, she gave possibly one of the best “I told you so” looks ever.

Finally, an intriguing moment played out onscreen between Diane and Cameron, who is portrayed by Walters’s real-life husband, Linden Ashby. Cameron really creeped out Diane, and she let it be known simply in Diane’s reactions. Bravo on an excellent performance! We can’t wait to see what comes next.
