Cheers To Young and the Restless Remembering It’s A Soap Opera

Today on The Young and the Restless, Devon Hamilton and Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor did something naughty…they slept together, cheating on his live-in girlfriend and her husband. Then, in the final moments of the episode those two people, Amanda Sinclair and Chance Chancellor, walked right in on them! It’s all so emotionally messy — just like we like our soaps!

The Young And The Restless Bringing The Drama

For a while, it felt like the soap spent all its time on redeeming characters, ending long-held feuds, and making people get along for the most part, which is great for real life, but for daytime drama, it sometimes feels like…well…watching paint dry. However, having a cheating couple get caught amid their unfaithfulness is absolutely on point for a soap, and once we picked our jaws up off the floor, we realized we couldn’t wait to see how things played out.

Will Chance (Conner Floyd) lose it and hit Devon (Bryton James)? Will he simply leave? What about Amanda (Mishael Morgan)? She took so long to trust, so this will be a huge blow to her, especially given all the family drama she’s had with her mom’s illness. As for Abby (Melissa Ordway), will she even feel bad, or does she feel justified in what she did, given that she wasn’t fulfilled by Chance?

It is nice to actually want to know what happens next when that feeling has been mostly missing for the past several years. Sure, it’s a little hard to believe that both Devon and Abby would’ve done this without so much as a single hesitation, but watching it happen was good old-fashioned soap fun.

While we know, in the end, we want to see people mostly do the right thing, it sure was a shakeup to see them make the wrong choice in such a dramatic way. It made for a big shock, and we hope that The Young and the Restless capitalizes on it and goes ahead with a great storyline that has ramifications for days, weeks, months, and even years after this.

Abby and Chance’s union brought together three powerful Genoa City families, but let’s face it, they never quite meshed. Plus, an Abby and Devon relationship would bring in a fourth powerful family — The Winters to go along with the Abbotts, Chancellors, and Newmans.

In all, we’re so happy to feel excited to see how this all plays out. What do you hope happens next? Did you like this dramatic turn of events? Let us know in the comments below.
