The Young and the Restless

A Critic’s Review of Young and the Restless: Dysfunction Junction

When it comes to Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) is sleepless in Genoa City. How apropos of The Young and the Restless, quite possibly the most boring of the four daytime dramas, to launch a storyline about a man battling insomnia. There’s a really funny joke in there somewhere, but I’m going to leave it to someone far cleverer than I to suss it out.

But honestly, what does Y&R head writer Josh Griffith see in the Billy character that I don’t? And why is Billy never allowed to actually grow as a human being? He apparently exists to self-reflect, to learn nothing, and begin the process all over again. This is, if I’m not mistaken, the fifth “Very Special Billy Episode.” Thank the good Lord above that this time around it didn’t eat up the entire show…but it was boring…so boring, that perhaps Billy should watch his scenes back in the hopes that they will put him to sleep.

Further Y&R Musings

* Speaking of an overabundance of manpain…it’s clear that The Young and the Restless still hasn’t gotten the message. Fans do not want Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) to go anywhere near the Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes)/Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) storyline.

For pity’s sake, the couple couldn’t even bask in their happiness without the subject of Noah popping up. And then for Noah to be dreaming about kissing Tessa – after she declares her love for him…paleese!

* Am I the only one who thinks that the coupling of Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) isn’t built to last? They’re rarely there for one another, and when they are, they offer each other some really suspect advice. Amanda really deserves a man who, a) won’t cheat on her, b) would actually be at her side while she’s attempting to bring her father’s murderer to justice, and c) doesn’t forget to at least wish her a Happy Valentine’s Day.

* In my humble opinion – though I hope I’m not the only one who feels this way – Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) are never, ever going to work as a couple, just like Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) are never, ever going to work as a couple.

A true supercouple must have two viable characters that people want to root for and want to see get together. I, for one, do not want to see a victim of attempted murder fall for his near assassin, no more than I want to see a woman pine after the man who let her think her child was dead so that he could steal it and give it to a woman whose child he did kill.

* Speaking of Rey…did Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) just abandon him to his fate at the hands of that thief?
