Sheila Carter and her portrayer, Kimberlin Brown, are being honored with a special stand-alone episode on The Bold and the Beautiful on, appropriately, Halloween. But the holiday Sheila’s really looking forward to is New Year’s Day. Bradley Bell and Kimberlin Brown share with Soap Hub their thoughts on Sheila’s future.
“As you may know, Sheila is believed to be dead by a bear mauling,” Bell told members of the show’s cast, production team, crew, and press at a recent event honoring Kimberlin Brown and her 30 years of playing Sheila on B&B. The naughty nurse faked her death after escaping from jail, where she was being held for shooting both Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and her own son, Dr. John ‘Finn’ Finnegan (Tanner Novlan).
“Sheila has no way out this time…do you believe that?” Bell asked rhetorically. “I can tell you that Sheila will rise from the ashes like never before and have a very Happy New Year.”
Needless to say, Brown was thrilled to learn that daytime’s most famous villainess is sticking around into 2023. However, just as Sheila is often a few steps ahead of everyone around her, Brown says that she was already made aware that Sheila has a future. “[Brad] told me months ago because I was concerned,” Brown tells Soap Hub. “He told me I was going down a deep rabbit hole but, ‘I’m going to pull you back up by the ears.'”
“There is always a way to do it,” Bell told Soap Hub. “There are good ways and better ways. This time, she really is in a corner.” First, Sheila has to get through Halloween on Monday, October 31.
That’s the day B&B will air a special episode dedicated to Sheila Carter. “I’ll simply say ‘Nurse Sheila’ makes a return [that day],” Brown says. “Nurse Sheila will make a return, and there will be lots of festivities.”
Brown’s three decades on B&B haven’t gone uninterrupted. Sometimes, she’s left the show when Sheila Carter goes off to jail; other times, Sheila pops back over to Genoa City on The Young and the Restless, where she first appeared in 1990. Sooner or later, however, Bell calls the actress and tells her it’s time to come home.
“You know, this last time around, it was huge,” Brown says of what it feels like to step back into Sheila’s shoes. “It meant more to me this time than any other. To be an actress of age and get a call to go back to work? I’m happier in my personal life than I’ve ever been. I think it shows in my work.”
Sheila Carter has snuck into Steffy and Finn’s cliff house to hold her grandson, but she’s not sure when she’s going to next share some snuggle time with baby Hayes — and that’s how she likes it. “I see a lot of the enthusiasm [online] and what viewers would love to see Sheila do,” Brown says. “[But] I never try to look ahead [past] the current script I have. I don’t want to know too much ahead or to change my performance today based on what’s going to happen in the future.”
