In Canada, where The Bold and the Beautiful’s Tanner Novlan hails from, playing hockey is practically a religion. The actor may live in Los Angeles now, but playing hockey is a big part of his life and always has been. His passion for power plays is the subject of Soap Hub’s latest installment of Wellness Wednesday.
Tanner Novlan Shares His Favorite Sport
“I play hockey!” Tanner Novlan enthuses to Soap Hub when asked about what his go-to physical activity is. “I like to stay active and I like to play once a week. There’s a group of us that plays…that’s the thing I really like to do. I’m not much of a gym rat. I go to the gym but I like to do something where my mind goes somewhere else.”
Like many Canadians, Novlan was introduced to hockey and ice skates at an early age. “I must have been 3 or 4 years old when I started skating,” he recalls. Getting involved in a physical activity at an early age, he says, “taught me how to train. Also, if you’re not in the moment you might get injured out there.”
Playing hockey revs up Tanner Novlan’s spirit. “I’m so competitive that all I want to do is win the game. I’m not thinking about anything else while I’m playing,” he says. “It’s a good mental reset.” Many children are introduced to sports and other activities as youngsters but not everyone keeps them as part of their lives as adults. That’s not the case with Novlan and hockey.
Skating On Home
“It’s very much ingrained in me,” says Novlan, who joined B&B in August 2020 as Finn. “It probably reminds me a little bit of home. Hockey and Canada are synonymous with each other. So, playing hockey feels like being home.”
Like other daytime stars who’ve talked to Soap Hub for Wellness Wednesday, Novlan is an advocate of choosing physical and mental activities that people are going to stick (no pun intended) with so they’ll remain consistent. “If you enjoy what you’re doing, you’re going to put a little more into it,” he theorizes. “You’re going to get a fuller workout. That’s true for many different exercises.”
You Can’t Have Ice Without Water
As for a general health tip, Tanner Novlan is also a supporter of staying hydrated. “I’m a big proponent of drinking water,” he says. “It’s great for your skin.” As always, it’s best to consult with your doctor before embarking on any new diet and/or fitness regimes.
