Ridge and Eric only have themselves to blame for Logan’s success on The Bold and the Beautiful. The father-son duo has been seething over Katie’s decision to move forward with a collection using Eric’s designs. But Eric decided to work for Logan because he offered to lead Katie’s design team after Ridge forced him into retirement. No one was tricked, manipulated, or taken advantage of. The bed the Forresters are in is of their own making, no matter how much they cry foul.

Key Takeaways

  • Eric switched up on Katie, and their relationship soured.
  • How Katie was able to use his designs against his wishes.
  • Why Ridge’s perspective on this situation is biased.

Eric Wronged Katie on B&B

Katie (Heather Tom) didn’t seek Eric (John McCook) out when she needed a lead designer for Logan’s first collection. The idea to team-up together came from the fashion legend himself. Having been burned by his own son, he offered his talent and his name to Logan because he and Katie are friends. Eric said he wanted to help her, and she believed him. But then Eric hung her out to dry.

All of their carefully laid plans were tossed when Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) apologized. Suddenly, Eric was on the express train back to Forrester, and he began to sing a different tune about Katie.

Before Ridge’s request for him to come back, Eric was excited to work on Logan with Katie. He wasn’t enthusiastic about the cheaper fabric Bill (Don Diamont) purchased, but he had a vision he wanted to execute.

Fast forward to Logan’s inaugural debut and Eric’s nodding along to accusations that Katie stole from him. But she didn’t. Eric went into a partnership with her that he backed out of. He knew his designs belonged to Logan and that he had been paid for them.

Eric’s just embarrassed now that his designs aren’t under the Forrester umbrella. However, he’d filled Katie’s heart with the idea of them standing together on the runway, holding hands up in triumph. So much for that.

If anything, Eric’s the one who took advantage of a situation that he shouldn’t have. He knew Katie would be overjoyed at his helping her, and then he just expected her to respect his wishes for his designs when he backed out. Eric left her in the lurch and has yet to say a word about it. That was his choice. No one made it for him.

Ridge Is Playing the Blame Game, But He’s the One at Fault

Ridge is willing to admit that Eric went to Logan because he pushed his dad out of his own company. But that’s as far as he’s willing to go when it comes to accountability. The rest he’s laying at Bill and Katie’s door, which is completely nonsensical.

Why did Ridge expect Spencer to swallow the financial cost of a Forrester fallout? It was Ridge’s decision to put his father out to pasture that made this situation possible.

The idea that a company neither of them has any stake in should take into consideration their family dust-ups and make-ups is galling. The repeated refrain from the Forresters is that Logan exploited a family argument. That Eric was led to make decisions he wouldn’t have otherwise, and that Katie shouldn’t have accepted his proposal.

Except this line of thinking makes Eric seem like a doddering old fool who needs to be protected. That’s not who he is. Eric is a world-renowned designer and leader in the fashion world who is fully capable of making his own decisions. Just like he’s fully capable of dealing with the consequences of those choices. As is Ridge.

They are at fault for the situation they’re in. It was their dirty laundry that got aired in front of the press because it’s the truth of how Eric’s partnership with Katie came to be. It’s not her responsibility to safeguard their relationship or worry about Eric’s legacy and how his ties to Logan could affect Forrester Creations. She doesn’t work there anymore; she has her own fashion line.

As Katie told Brooke, there’s a new fashion queen in town. Perhaps if Ridge and Eric hadn’t fallen out like they did, she wouldn’t be on top. But she is. So if there’s anyone to blame, it’s them.
