A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Frustrating Interaction & Slow Burn

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

Now, I’ll grant you that I’ve opened quite a few of these columns over the years claiming that the week’s proceedings amounted to a whole lot of nothing, but the last five shows were particularly painful to watch — make that “slug” through.

And sure, I suppose that it was nice to see Krista Allen back on screen, and a small part of me appreciated her voicing the same concerns that a contingent of us viewers have in regard to Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), but seeing as how Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and even Hope (Annika Noelle) have been saying similar things for months on end, her scenes played out as exercises in futility.

Ditto the interactions between Li (Naomi Matsuda) and Finn (Tanner Novlan), Taylor and Finn, and Liam (Scott Clifton) and Finn. And all these weeks later RJ (Joshua Hoffman) is STILL debating whether or not to keep Eric’s (John McCook) confidence. Memo to Junior, this is ERIC’S personal medical issue. HE will decide who he wants to tell and when to tell them. Sit yourself down!

As for poor Deacon (Sean Kanan) and Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), they’ve been going through the same “break-up, reunite, break-up, reunite” cycle for so long that I’m beginning to mistake their segments for ones featuring Brooke/Ridge/Taylor from the 1990s.

What’s even more maddeningly frustrating is the soap’s refusal to stop beating around the bush and just have their characters utter words like “murder” and “kill” when referencing Sheila.

Li referred to it as “cutting out the cancer” and she and Taylor both regurgitated lines like “Finn, you have to do whatever is necessary” and Ridge hissing that what he’d like to do to the villainess would result in a lengthy jail sentence. Just say what you mean and mean what you say and stop circling and get to the damn point!
