When he isn’t saving lives or manipulating them in Port Charles as Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt, Roger Howarth likes to keep busy with other projects. The General Hospital actor announced his latest, an independent feature titled What Doesn’t Float, on Instagram.

Roger Howarth’s Pride And Joy

Roger Howarth (Austin) took to social media to report that the film opened in a limited run this weekend in New York, and is set to open in Los Angeles on October 6. The actor posted proudly, “What Doesn’t Float has conquered lower Manhattan!! Thanks to these amazing creatives. Next is Los Angeles! They are beautiful talents and cool sweet people.”

Included in the post were fellow actors, Pauline Chalamet, who plays Alex and is also a producer on the film, and Garrett Forster, who plays Jackson. The dark comedy is an anthology of New Yorkers pushed to their breaking point. Howarth plays a character named Paddle Boarder.

The film is written by Shauna Fitzgerald and marks the directorial debut of Luca Balser. The movie covers seven stories that range from a young woman who changes her mind after taking a ride from a bad boy on a motorcycle to a car washer who can’t do his job anymore and a dock worker who is battling a decline of his capabilities.

Filming took place back in December 2019 and May of 2020 on location in New York City. What Doesn’t Float has already received one nomination from the festival circuit for the Grand Jury Prize for the New Directors’ Competition at the 2023 Nashville Festival.

Back in Port Charles, Howarth’s character is in quite a pickle. Saying “no” to family is always hard but when it includes the likes of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) and Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey) it could be deadly, not to mention that he is hiding the fact that Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) is alive and well from, well, everybody. Things are looking dicey for the doc.

For more information on the film, fans can go to the official website, check out a schedule of screenings across the US and Canada, or pre-order a DVD.
