If there’s one thing you can count on with soaps, it’s longstanding feuds; adversaries who continually go head-to-head, and nemeses who loathe each other with a passion. However, that’s no longer the case on one daytime drama. In a daring move, The Bold and the Beautiful has flipped the switch on three great rivalries.

Bold and the Beautiful: Steffy vs. Hope

Remember when Liam (Scott Clifton) was the man in the middle between Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Hope (Annika Noelle)? The two stepsisters played tug of war over the guy for years, with Steffy scheming and manipulating to land him and Hope emerging as the good girl in the triangle. Times have changed — dramatically.

The two women, who each have a daughter by Liam, now support each other to the max, determined to have a big, happy, blended family. Things have taken such a turn that when Thomas and Hope’s son Douglas’s custody came into play, Steffy was actually siding with Hope over her own brother. The pair’s bond has become one of the soap’s most interesting dynamics.

The Two Mrs. Forresters of B&B

Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor’s (Krista Allen) battle for Ridge (Thorsten) had been epic. They were rivals who took turns as the Forrester heir’s wife, and each raised a family with him, while he flip-flopped between them. But after Ridge and Taylor’s recent wedding debacle left Ridge confused about which “wife” to choose, the two women took the course of their future into their own hands.

They opted to take a new united stance and choose themselves, both giving Ridge the heave-ho. Then they took things a step further by forging a new path as friends. Perhaps they’re following their daughters’ example? It’s been an intriguing turn as the two women are now good pals, who do lunch and support one another through tough times and even getting back into the dating pool.

Bold and the Beautiful: Dollar Bill and the Dressmaker

Who saw this one coming? Lifelong enemies Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and Ridge Forrester have suddenly joined forces in a cryptic mission to bring down sociopath Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown). The covert operation has turned two men who detest one another into a superhero team determined to protect their families.

The twist is so wild, so unexpected, that as a viewer you feel as if you’ve entered an alternative dimension à la Stranger Thing’s Upside Down. Could the sworn adversaries be on the path to friendship, too? While that’s a huge stretch and seems downright impossible, the surprise story turn is another way B&B has shaken up the playing field and allowed another pair of rivals to forge a new path — this time as colleagues in a powerful end game.
