It has seemed obvious for a while that General Hospital planned to push Willow and Michael together. But the way they did it, by having them fall for Chase and Sasha’s affair ruse hook, line, and stinker, may have done some damage to the characters’ credibility. Here’s why.
General Hospital Set-Up
Granted, some level of gullibility is necessary to facilitate soap plots. That’s been happening for decades. But this goes above and beyond the acceptable level.
For the Love of Wiley
Sasha (Sofia Mattsson), for one, had been pushing Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) to get married for weeks, realizing it would give Michael the best chance of winning full custody of Wiley. Despite her love for the guy, Sasha was selflessly willing to step aside to do what was best for his son.
Willow knew that, and so did Michael. So how is it possible that it didn’t cross either Willow or Michael’s mind that this sudden Chase/Sasha affair was simply a ploy to push them into tying the knot?
Location, Location, Location
Moving on from the above, there’s the place where Willow caught Chase (Josh Swickard) and Sasha getting hot and heavy: on the couch in direct eye-line of the front door leading into the apartment she shared with Chase.
Didn’t that scream “set up” to Willow? Chase and Willow were serving up their romp on a silver platter, knowing Willow would eventually walk in and see them going at it. Things couldn’t have looked more staged if Sasha and Chase were selling tickets.
Catching On
Making matters worse, while Willow and Michael have been penned as oblivious and dumb as rocks, Carly and Finn immediately saw through Chase and Sasha’s plot like cellophane.
Finn quickly called Chase out for lying to him, when he told him he’d cheated on Willow with Sasha. And Carly saw right through Sasha’s attempt to explain what happened between her and Chase. If Chase’s brother and Michael’s mother weren’t fooled for a second, how could Willow and Michael have been so darned dumb.
