As the son of the most iconic supercouple in soap history, Lucky Spencer followed in his parents’ footsteps when he fell in love with Elizabeth Webber, and they too became a couple for the ages on General Hospital.
Liz came from her own nostalgic GH history. She is the daughter of Dr. Jeff Webber and his wife, Carolyn. She is also the granddaughter of one of the show’s original characters, Steve Hardy. Their iconic love affair resulted in two marriages, and together they jointly have three children, Cameron (with Zander Smith), Jake (with Jason Morgan), and their biological child, Aiden.
The two met for the first time in 1997 outside of Kelly’s Diner. Liz quickly developed a huge crush on Lucky, but he did not return the feelings at first. He was fixated on Elizabeth’s older sister, Sarah. The two developed a close friendship, but everything changed for them in 1998 when Elizabeth was raped.
While Liz was sitting on a bench at the park, she was attacked from behind, dragged into the bushes, and raped. Lucky found her at the park, and he lovingly took care of her. They developed a close friendship, and Lucky became her protector and confidant.
In the midst of helping Liz through her ordeal, Nikolas, who emerged as Laura’s son with Stavros Cassadine, angrily told Lucky that Luke had raped their mother, Laura. Lucky was devastated by the news and furious at his father, whom he had idolized up to that point. Not only had his parents kept this secret from him, but the pain hit his heart even harder knowing how much the trauma of rape had affected Liz too.
Disillusioned with his parents, he moved out of their family home and into a boxcar. Liz helped him turn the abandoned train compartment into a cozy hideaway, and the two finally shared their first kiss there. He encouraged her love of painting while she supported his music dreams.
He ended up moving into a room above Jason’s bike shop in exchange for helping out there. On Valentine’s Day, Lucky and Liz exchanged vows in an abandoned church, promising to love each other forever.
Sadly, their love affair came to a halt when he was presumably killed in a fire that was started at the bike shop. Liz was heartbroken, as were his family and friends. The devastation for viewers was short-lived, though, as it was revealed that Lucky was actually still alive and being held captive by Helena Cassadine.
Lucky returned to Port Charles a couple of years later but was brainwashed by Helena, which resulted in their break-up. The couple eventually reunited and married in 2005, and Lucky became a father figure to Elizabeth’s son, Cameron.
Sadly, an accident hurt Lucky’s back and he became addicted to prescription drugs. This led to his cheating with Maxie, who got him the drugs — and the discovery of it sent Liz into Jason’s arms. She became pregnant. But they divorced after Lucky learned that he was not Jake’s biological father — Jason was. They got engaged again in 2009 but split up when Lucky learned of Elizabeth’s affair with Nikolas.
The two remained connected as they raised the kids and learned Lucky was Aiden’s dad but heartbreak happened when Jake was killed. Elizabeth helped Lucky through his drug relapse in 2011. He did not want to reconcile, though, and left for Ireland.
The last time we saw Lucky was in 2017 after he found Jake actually alive on Cassadine Island and returned him to Elizabeth. He then skipped town quickly after learning the man calling himself Jake Doe was actually Jason, Jake’s biological father. Of course, that turned out to be Drew, Jason’s twin but who knows if Lucky got updated on that development.
Considering the tragedy his sister Lulu suffered and with both his mom and his brother still living in Port Charles (along with his son), there’s always a chance Lucky may return one day. If he does, he’ll find Liz has moved on without him — having married Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
