Tyler Christopher, beloved fan favorite of both General Hospital and Days of our Lives, passed away last on October 31, 2023. Now, news of his cause of death has been released.
Tyler Christopher: Cause of Death
TMZ reports that Christopher died from suffocation. The news magazine website obtained information from the Medical Examiner’s Office, which reveals that the actor’s official cause of death is listed as “positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication.” The contributing factor of coronary artery atherosclerosis was listed in the report.
To use layman’s terms, the actor suffocated due to how his body was positioned when he passed away. The medical examiner says that alcohol played a part in him ending up that way. “Coronary atherosclerosis” is essentially plaque buildup in arteries. Christopher’s death was accidental.
Tributes for the late actor began immediately following the news of his passing. His former on and off-screen leading lady Natalia Livingston (ex-Emily/ex-Rebecca, GH) posted: “How gifted, how dedicated, how much he cared about his craft and those around him I was honored to work with him for many years and admired his talent tremendously. He created such a safe space for us to work together. I felt confident when I worked with him. He made it easy. He was generous. He brought scenes to life with such grace and conviction. He gave his work everything he had.”
Christopher made his GH debut as Nikolas Cassadine in 1996, quickly becoming a fan favorite as the long-lost son of Laura (Genie Francis). He played the role on and off until 2016, the year that he won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. His next role was as Stefan O. DiMera on DAYS, a “new” son of Stefano (Joe Mascolo) and Vivian (Louise Sorel). He vacated his role on that show in 2019.
