GH Star Tabyana Ali On How She Stepped Into Playing Trina Robinson

It’s been nearly five months since Tabyana Ali began playing the popular role of Trina Robinson on General Hospital. She was stepping into a highly-publicized recast part, following Sydney Mikayla’s decision to leave the soap to focus on her college studies. Since then, life has gotten more dramatic than ever for the character.

Tabyana Ali Takes On Trina In Pivotal Story

Almost as soon as Ali began bringing Trina to life, she was thrust into a front-burner story in which her character was falsely accused of making a sex video of her best friends Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Cameron Webber (William Lipton) and releasing it onto the Internet. As fans and almost everyone in Port Charles knows, the real culprit was Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl).

In the ensuing months, Trina has tried her best to save herself while watching Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), the boy she can’t help loving, fake believing Esme is innocent just to bring Esme down. That’s quite a lot of story to take on at once when new to soaps, but Ali has handled it like the pro she is.

The Key To Taking Over Trina Robinson

When Ali sat down for an interview with ABC7 Chicago recently, she spoke of coming onto GH when she did and how she made Trina her own — and part of her method was looking to see what her predecessor did.

“I believe [in] studying the other actor and how they played them,” Ali said. “And then studying your own self and how you would play them. There’s a lot of work that goes into it and understanding that you can be as flexible as you want with [recast] characters because nothing is really set in stone, but it’s always nice to look back at the past and see what the past actor did.”

So far, Tabyana Ali is a hit with fans who still long for ‘Sprina’ to admit their true feelings for one another, something that looks like it may be coming soon now that Spencer is officially done with Esme.
