Generally speaking, soaps try their best to remember which season it is and how that pertains to each show’s particular setting. As General Hospital is set in New York, which can be pretty hot in the summer, it’s only natural that characters like Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) would wear summer clothing especially when they’re hanging out at the Metro Court Pool & Spa.
However, recently, a poster weighed in negatively about the skirt and top that Sam was wearing in a scene with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). “If you have a problem or anyone else contact the Wardrobe department,” Kelly Monaco tweeted in response. “Does an outfit really make an actor? It’s supposed to be summertime and 95° It’s no surprise that someone will always come up with some thing to complain and be negative about! Women should be supporting women!”
The ways in which fans communicate with their favorite actors and shows have changed a great deal since Monaco made her daytime debut as Livvie Locke on Port Charles in 2000. Pre-social media, fans would mail letters to the studio and to actors in order to express their feelings on storylines, wardrobe, and other show-related matters. Now, we live in a world in which anyone can pretty much post anything and tag the actor, enabling the performer to read the post immediately. It’s totally understandable how a series of negative comments can be frustrating, to say the least!
Fans who express their opinions don’t have to tag the actor, especially when remarks aren’t always positive. However, tagging an actor when you support them is always a thoughtful gesture. “Kelly! We love ya!” posted @KillyDnA. “Concentrate on the positive! There’s tons of it out here!! You’re slaying it, skirt and all!”
“You looked beautiful as always and appropriate for a casual summer day,” posted @HardisonS1. “Continue shining Queen!” Wrote @Janan5of5, “Loved the look!! Can’t please everyone all the time, or some any of the time but you looked great! And btw we’ve been waiting for the summer wardrobe to finally make an appearance!”
Overall, Monaco, who has played Samantha “Sam” McCall since 2003, is very appreciative of her online followers. Her posted tweet reads, “Hello my dreamy Sam fans. I have been reading through a lot of the posts here. And I want all of you to know, that I do read each and everyone of them. I may not answer… Obviously. But your support does not go unnoticed! #BestFansEver.”
