Veteran actor Dean Stockwell, whose credits include the 1980s series Quantum Leap, died on November 7 at the age of 85. Now, General Hospital alum Coby Ryan McLaughlin is remembering meeting the actor on the set of that NBC series when he was a little boy.
Coby Ryan McLaughlin Remembers Dean Stockwell
“Man…This guy…Summer 1988,” McLaughlin began his post. “My old man was doing Quantum Leap, and would bring me to set everyday to hang out. One day, Dean saw me just kicking rocks looking bored, and said ‘Hey, kid.. you wanna have a coke and watch the fights with me?’
“‘Sure!’ So we hopped in his Carmine red Caddy with Sinatra blaring, and hightailed it sideways down a dirt road somewhere deep in Disney Ranch to his trailer, and hung out for the afternoon…” McLaughlin continues. “He lit a stogie, schooled me on the finer points of the Spinks/Tyson match, and talked about how cool my old man was. After that, every time I came to work with my dad, he always had a coke and a story for me…
“Great guy; even better actor. RIP, Dean— thanks for the memories,” wrote McLaughlin, concluding his post with a simple red heart emoji. Quantum Leap was a science-fiction TV series that starred Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett, a time traveler who assumed other people throughout history as he attempted to get things back on track. Stockwell co-starred as Admiral Al Calavicci, his best friend, who aided Sam in his adventures.
Remembering Shiloh
Coby Ryan McLaughlin played Dawn of Day cult leader Shiloh (AKA Henry David Archer), who lured unsuspecting women into his web of deceit. When Sam (Kelly Monaco) was pulling one of her cons, she wed Shiloh’s father. He sought revenge but met his fate at the hand of Sam, who was protecting Jason (Steve Burton).
