There are plenty of Game of Thrones characters we don’t miss — Joffrey Baratheon and Ramsay Bolton, to name a few — but there are a handful of characters we wish we could get back, even just for a scene.
Whether they were entertaining, honorable, or cunning, here are the top five GOT characters we miss the most, with one honorable mention.
Ned Stark (Sean Bean)
Ned was gone far too soon. The patriarch of the Stark family was a strong leader and lead by example. He raised all of his children, even his supposed bastard Jon Snow, to be good people and not to be drunk on the power the Stark name provided. His beheading in Season 1 was devastating for fans who fell in love with him so quickly.
Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley)
Not only was Catelyn protective of her children, but she was also protective of her people in the North. She believed in doing the right thing, just like her husband Ned. Her death was absolutely brutal, and it was made all the worse by the fact she lived long enough to see her son, his wife, and their unborn child murdered in front of her.
Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg)
We have Olenna to thank for Joffrey’s death, and for that, she’ll go down as one of the best Game of Thrones characters of all time. Despite being an older woman, Olenna was tough and ferocious — she was the Queen of Thorns and queen of the one-liners. She stood her ground and didn’t go out without a fight.
Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa)
Though Daenerys did everything she could to save Khal Drogo back in Season 1, it just wasn’t enough to keep him alive. He loved his Khaleesi and was willing to do anything to protect her. Despite their relationship’s rocky start, he was such a fan favorite, so it was hard to say goodbye.
Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal)
Game of Thrones arguably lost its most charming character when Oberyn bit the dust in Season 4. He arrived in King’s Landing to get revenge for the death of his sister, Elia, who died at the hands of The Mountain, one of Tywin Lannister’s fighters.
Oberyn’s best quality, however, was that he didn’t judge anybody for how they looked or who they loved. Unfortunately, he died while fighting The Mountain for Tyrion in what was one of the most gruesome GOT deaths ever.
Honorable Mention: Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey)
Though this death was very recent, fans missed Lady Mormont the second she was crushed to death by the giant (but she killed him too!) in the Battle for Winterfell. Despite being tiny, Lyanna had a fighting spirit that inspired everyone in the North — and, dare we say, everyone watching at home.
