Soaps are about tradition, and one of General Hospital’s favorite traditions is the Nurses Ball. Singing! Dancing! Ball gowns! (Remembering that we’re here for charity!) Lucy her clothes!

For several days out of the year, stories unfold on stage, with a background of musical theater and dramatic monologues. Are viewers looking forward to the festivities? Here’s what over 15,000 had to say:

Something Different
We are pumped, 81% of you cheer. Another song from Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) — because even bad guys take time out of their busy day to practice the piano. Another dance from Anna (Finola Hughes) — obviously, the ballroom was a mandatory course at spy school.

Maybe Ava (Maura West) will do another song to get Sonny (Maurice Benard) in a noble and manly way. The nurses will perform a group number. Mayor Laura (Genie Francis) should have something official to say, and wouldn’t it be an interesting place for Ryan (Jon Lindstro) to make his return?

Plus, GH is trying really, really hard to make Joss (Eden McCoy) and Oscar (Garren Stitt) this generation’s Robin (Kimberly McCullough) and Stone (Michael Sutton). Who wants Joss will collapse mid-performance thinking about him and Jason (Steve Burton) will be there to carry her off. Tradition!

Worn Out
There’s nothing new under the sun, and there’s certainly nothing new to do at the Nurses Ball, 19% of the audience counters. We’ve seen it all, we’ve done it all, we’ve sung it all.

The people who actually can sing and dance, it doesn’t make sense of their characters. And the people who can’t sing and dance, well, why do we need to waste time watching them?

The Nurses Ball packed a punch in the early days, but it’s been played out. We’ve seen every variation of what can happen, and anything that gets repeated isn’t an homage, it’s a rerun.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
