Fran Drescher now stars in Indebted on NBC, but that’s not stopping her from reuniting with her pals from The Nanny for a special reunion. The cast is gathering to do a table read of the show’s pilot.
Due to coronavirus concerns, the actors won’t actually be in the same room for the reading; they’ll reunite via Zoom, an online program that allows for video-conferencing.
Some fans had speculated the show was going to return for a limited run based on a tweet Drescher posted last week hinting a “surprise” was in the works.
Variety is reporting that the original cast of the hit sitcom will gather to read a Nanny script and the reunion will be posted on the Sony Pictures YouTube page on the morning of Monday, April 6.
“Laughter is the best medicine!” Drescher said in a statement. “So, in these challenging times, Petah [Peter Marc Jacobson, the show’s co-creator and her ex-husband] and I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we pulled together the original cast of The Nanny for a virtual read of the pilot?
“It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well.”
Joining Drescher (who played Fran Fine) are original cast members Charles Shaughnessy (Maxwell), Daniel Davis (Niles), Lauren Lane (C.C.), Nicholle Tom (Maggie), Benjamin Salisbury (Brighton), Madeline Zima (Grace), Renee Taylor (Sylvia), and others.
Original cast member James Marsden (Eddie) will not be partaking in the reunion. Drescher is developing a musical version of The Nanny titled The Nanny: A New Musical for Broadway. Currently, The Nanny airs on The Roku Channel, Cozi TV, and Logo TV. Logo is set to air a marathon of The Nanny episodes, including the show’s 1993 pilot, and an additional nine other episodes on Monday, April 6 starting at 8 p.m. ET.
