 Comments

A soap star diagnosed with COVID-19; a YR alum dating Demi Lovato; and daytimers coping with quarantines… Here’s everything you missed in the daytime world — with links — in the Soap Hub soap opera news wrap.

Soap Opera News: COVID-19 Hits Daytime Star

COVID-19 officially hit the daytime world. Actor Greg Rikaart (Kevin, The Young and the Restless) tested positive for the virus. Meanwhile, Chloe Lanier (Nelle, General Hospital), who feared she had it, reported in to update her condition and, thankfully, she’s doing better.

Dating Demi

On the dating front, former YR star Max Ehrich (ex-Finn) has a new woman in his life. The actor is dating singer Demi Lovato.

Pregnancy and the Pandemic

YR’s Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe) spent the week in the final days of her pregnancy and there were lots of challenges coping with it during the coronavirus. One thing that helped was singing to her baby-to-be. You won’t want to miss her video. On Friday, she did finally give birth to a daughter, Josephine.

Coping and Quarantines

On the GH front, Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Cynthia Watros (Nina) shared some tips on how to cope with the fear and anxiety of the Covid-19. Meanwhile, Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) gathered past and present co-star pals James Patrick Stuart (Valentin) and Michelle Stafford (ex-Nina; Phyllis, YR) for a fun video chat to lighten everyone’s mood. You can watch it here.

Staying Centered and Happy at Home

YR’s Mishael Morgan (Amanda) is passing her time at home connecting with her two children and working on some fun arts and crafts. She even shared a photo of one of her family’s completed projects on Instagram.

Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla, YR) has found a way to keep fit under her own roof. She doesn’t even need weights, just collard greens and music.

The Days of Our Lives gang had lots to say about COVID-19, too. Stacy Haiduk (Kristen) shared a fast motion video of herself doing a yoga workout to restore her sense of calm, while Patrika Darbo (ex-Nancy, DAYS; ex-Shirley, BB) shared some words of wisdom all the seniors out there should follow during this pandemic.

Victoria Konefal (Ciara) heaped some praise on all the caregivers out there. And she had some special words for the champions fighting the virus, too.

Big Soap Opera News: We’re #1

The streak is over for YR. The Bold and the Beautiful unseated the longtime champ as the top daytime soap, last week. However, there is a caveat.

The Young and the Restless did celebrate a major milestone, though. The CBS soap, that debuted in 1973, has been on the air for 47 years.

Covid-19 Cancellations Continue

The 47th Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony, originally slated to take place in June, is the latest industry event canceled. Actors, however, will still be competing for the coveted gold statuettes.

With the postponement of two major events, the 2020 Summer Olympics and the French Open tennis tournament, which were set to preempt Days of Our Lives, NBC will have to scramble to fill the time slot. Here’s why new episodes of DAYS may not be able to air.
