You may not know much about Maya Hawke now, but you definitely will after Season 3 of Stranger Things drops Thursday. Though there isn’t much known about her role on the show, we do know Hawke is starring as a girl named Robin who works with Steve Harrington (Joe Kerry) at an ice cream parlor.
From her very famous parents to almost being in The Little Mermaid, here are five fast facts you need to know about Stranger Things actress, Maya Hawke.
Famous Parents
Hawke, who was born in New York City in 1998, is the eldest child of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. They were married in 1998 but eventually divorced in 2005. She has a younger brother who was born in 2002. Hawke also has three half-sisters, two from her dad and one from her mother.
It’s All Relative
Along with coming from parents who are in show business, Hawke is also the great-great-grandniece of famous playwright Tennessee Williams, who wrote plays such as A Streetcar Named Desire, The Glass Menagerie, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Sweet Bird of Youth.
Early Diagnosis
Hawke was diagnosed with dyslexia at a very young age. Because of this, she had to change schools a lot as a kid. She ended up enrolling at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn, New York that encourages creativity and doesn’t grade work. Because of this, she ended up falling in love with acting and even attended Juilliard for a year.
Just-Missed Role
Back when Sofia Coppola was planning on directing the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, Hawke was her first choice to play Ariel. But, the producers decided to go with Chloe Grace Moretz instead. Unfortunately, both Coppola and Moretz dropped out of the project.
Screen Debut
Hawke finally made her big screen debut in the BBC miniseries adaptation of Little Women, which came out in 2017. Hawke was cast as Jo March. She was then cast in Season 3 of Stranger Things, in which she plays a character named Robin.
