The Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion was fun while it lasted, but it looks as if it has officially run its course. Fox revealed on Thursday that it does not plan on bringing back BH90210, which had a six-episode run over the summer.
While the reboot did bring back original cast members like Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, Shannen Doherty, and Gabrielle Carteris, they were all playing heightened versions of themselves, not the characters the audience had come to love over the years.
“We are so proud to have reunited in a very special summer event one of the network’s legacy series and casts with 90210 fans across the country,” Fox said in a statement obtained by Variety.
Grateful Cast
“Profound thanks to and respect for Brian, Gabrielle, Ian, Jason, Jennie, Shannen and Tori, who, along with the entire crew and everyone at FOX and CBS Television Studios, poured their hearts and souls into this truly inventive and nostalgic revival.”
Spelling seemed to allude to the cancellation in an Instagram post, but also seemed to give hope it may turn up elsewhere, writing, “Sometimes home isn’t where you ARE but who you are WITH. Together, our #bh90210 family can do anything. We’ve proved that to each other and our loyal fans. We ARE better together.”
She continued, “Our show is so meta that all the reality out there just helps us continue to evolve and gives us GREAT new storylines! The gift that keeps on giving. We aim to keep audiences guessing what will happen next. So stay tuned as our journey unfolds.”
Despite being cancelled, the series did post strong numbers. In fact, it was the highest-rated scripted broadcast show of the summer, as it averaged around 3.5 million total viewers per episode.
Though the show was billed as just a six-episode limited series, it did end with the potential for a Season 2. Here’s hoping another network or streaming service jumps at the chance to give the show a new home. Let us know what you think should happen to this show in the comments section below.
