When a character’s life totally implodes, that usually makes for a happy actor — or at least one that gets a lot of meaty material and that was the case this week for Days of our Lives star Billy Flynn. He made us yell at Chad and then broke our hearts at the same time, earning him Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors this week.
Billy Flynn — Poor Chad
Oh what a tangled web Gwen (Emily O’Brien) weaves — and it darn near strangled Chad’s heart as he reached (the wrong) conclusion that Abigail (Marci Miller) was cheating on him once again with yet another brother (so what if they look exactly alike, right?) right under his nose. To make matters worse, it was New Year’s Eve and Chad took it upon himself to get sloshed.
Needless to say, in vino veritas — “in wine, there is truth” or at least in champagne, which Gwen happily watched as Chad drank away his emotions, which in this case happened to be his broken heart. She gleefully watched as he followed every breadcrumb she left for him which led poor Chad to the hotel room that Jake (Brandon Barash) supposedly arranged for his Abigail rendezvous.
Of course, said night of passion was never on Abigail’s dance card but Chad didn’t know that. Usually smart, Chad fell for all of Gwen’s tricks, mostly because he’s never gotten over the pain of seeing Abby in bed with Stefan, despite the fact that was actually one of her altars. In her right mind, Abby never would cheat on him. But he allowed himself to forget that fact.
As the “truth” washed over him, Flynn underplayed the alcohol’s effect other than to bring out his truth — Chad was broken. The thought of losing the love of his life tore at his heart and Flynn got that across and tore our hearts to shreds (to match Chad’s) in the process. And it left him open to being the one to do the cheating — with a supposedly unwilling (yeah, right) Gwen.
Chad was determined to make Abigail hurt as much as she hurt him, but instead, he was inflicting that pain all on himself. Perhaps he wouldn’t have been so quick to believe Gwen’s lies if he’d dealt with Abby’s altar’s betrayal back when it happened. Instead, he allowed himself to feel insecure and that gave Gwen the opening she needed to wreak havoc — and destroy Abby — her goal.
“Don’t say her name,” he said, heartbroken. “Make me forget.” He then kissed Gwen and we’re to assume (or are we?) that the two had sex. But the fact Chad had to ask if they’d done it the next morning certainly leaves room for doubt.
Either way, it’s a safe bet that Billy Flynn will have plenty of material after this to keep breaking our hearts — and Abigail’s — as this story continues to unravel and we can’t wait! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
