In the Days of our Lives recap for September 12, 2023, Ava and Harris are spurred to leave Salem by the former’s visions of not-at-all-dead Susan.

Days of our Lives Recap Highlights

In addition, EJ grouses about his best-laid plans, Wendy and Tripp’s morning after the night before is rudely interrupted, and Chanel makes a decision between Johnny and Talia. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.

Days of our Lives Recap: Up In (Old) Smoke

With their meager supplies dwindling, Harris (Steve Burton) gallantly volunteered to go and rustle something else up for him and Ava (Tamara Braun) — but before stepping out of the room, the duo debated just who it was that sent that assassin after Ava.

Ava had no doubt in her mind that it was EJ (Dan Feuerriegel); Harris could but agree. After resolving to figure out where the heck Susan (Stacy Haiduk) was and reuniting her with her murder-minded son, Harris stepped out to go foraging.

Meanwhile, Ava found herself contending with a vision of Susan that was as annoying, if not more so, as the genuine article. Among the many things Ava gleaned was that Specter Susan (which may or may not be real Susan projecting herself into Ava’s mind) really craved Cool Ranch Corn Chips and that she was stuck somewhere in “Old Smoke.”

Upon returning and being apprised of goings-on, Harris pointed out that “Old Smoke” was an old nickname for London. Is it possible that Susan had somehow made it across the pond? And if so, why was she being so darn cryptic? All perfectly reasonable questions…if you live in Salem, USA.

DAYS Recap: Full Court Press

Over at the DiMera mansion, EJ growled into his phone and into the ear of the lackey on the other end that he wanted updates on the status of his grievously injured hired gun. Johnny (Carson Boatman) happened upon his angry father and wondered what was going on. That necessitated EJ explaining how Ava had made her grand escape — assisted by Harris Michaels — while conveniently leaving out that she was running for her life away from the assassin that he employed.

That plot point given due lip service, EJ then turned the topic of conversation to Johnny’s love life and was horrified to hear that his son had merely poured out his heart to Chanel (Raven Bowens) and then walked away. DiMeras never let someone else decide their fate. They never leave anything to chance. He shouldn’t wait for Chanel to come to him, he should go to Chanel.

Opposite this, Chanel complained to Paulina (Jackée Harry) about the bomb that Johnny dropped on her. Why wait until now to say something? She is so tired of being one side of a triangle.

And it’s with that feeling in mind that Chanel called Johnny and summoned him over to her (and her mother’s) abode. Despite being sure that he was in for a harsh dumping, Johnny was pleasantly surprised when Chanel declared that she was choosing him.

DOOL Recap: Red Alert

Despite their best efforts, Wendy (Victoria Grace) and Tripp (Lucas Adams) found themselves unable to continue basking in the afterglow of the evening together — what with Rafe (Galen Gering) banging down their door with news of Ava’s escapades.

Tripp wasted no time in accusing EJ of being the one to sic the assassin on his mother, and Rafe couldn’t help but see the logic there. Soon a report came in pointing the cops in the direction of Ava and Harris’s hotel room which Rafe insisted on checking out personally.

At University Hospital, Jada (Elia Cantu) fawned over her baby sister and rejoiced over her joining the medical institution’s staff. After a few pictures were snapped and hugs exchanged, Talia waxed lyrical about her new life. How lucky she was that she had so many second chances.

Soon Jada was called away to perform her sworn duty (i.e. interviewing the La Femme Nikita wannabe) and Talia found herself off the clock and desiring to spend some quality time with Chanel — who had her tongue down Johnny’s throat!
