Days of Our Lives February 5: Here’s Why Whitley King Attempts to Destroy Body & Soul May Work After All

The B&S reboot has been through a lot. Can it recover from the tainted scripts debacle?

OG Body & Soul superfan Whitley King was, unsurprisingly, the woman behind the poisoned cupcakes, Bonnie falling down the elevator shaft, and the tainted scripts. On the Wednesday, February 5 episode of Days of Our Lives, she laid out her reasons for going after the reboot. She also dropped some fun soap-related pop culture references during all that exposition.

Crazy Cat Lady is the Culprit

Kim Coles returned as Whitley King, the woman who kidnapped an amnesiac Abe (James Reynolds) and, in the process, got him hooked on Body & Soul. Ever since going off the deep end of reality, she has been healing her mind, body, and soul at Bayview, or so we thought.

Instead, she cooked up a plan to bring down B&S because she felt — much like Kerry (Derek Yates) did — that the reboot did a disservice to the original show. That it tainted the classic show’s legacy. She didn’t like the cast, the recasts, the storylines, or anything.

Abe confronted her, and Whitley gave him the lowdown on how she did what she did, including the poison she sprayed on the scripts that made everybody sick. Apparently, her superpower is invisibility because she is able to move around the psychiatric facility at will and collect what she needs to do much harm to the B&S cast and crew. She even secured a burner phone from inside those walls.

Ultimately, Paulina (Jackée Harry) shows up after Abe texts her his theory, and she saves her husband from the poison.

Why Whitley’s Plan May Have Worked

After all this, are Abe and Kate (Lauren Koslow) actually going to continue producing B&S? Since day one, the show has been plagued with problems, danger, rumors, drama, and an anonymous blogger blasting all the show’s business. But those issues especially kicked in after Hattie (Deidre Hall) cursed B&S.

Whitley’s deadly shenanigans may not have eliminated the cast permanently, but maybe Abe and Kate decide that enough’s enough. Nothing is worth all the mess they have had to deal with.

Soap-Themed References

Whitley King is a soap fan who’s clued into her fellow superfans, soap fans’ social media habits, and even the outlets that cover the genre.

While explaining her methods of madness to Abe, she referred to superfan Jason32. There is an actual DAYS superfan who goes by the name Jason47. Of course, the show again referred to “Soap Twitter.” According to Whitley, “You can find anything you want” on #soaptwitter.

And even Soap Hub got a mention (Thanks, DAYS!) after Abe called her out on attempting to murder Bonnie (Judi Evans). “The next thing I know, Soap Hub is reporting that you brought on Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans).” Whitley didn’t appreciate a doctor moonlighting as Kassandra Lovegood.

Is this the end of Whitley King, the crazy cat lady and OG Body & Soul superfan? At the end there, she seemed to settle into her B&S delusions. More importantly, is this the end of Body & Soul? Or will it live on for a little while longer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
