When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.
Let me preface this by saying, I know. I know. I’m asking/looking for a wee bit of logic from Days of our Lives, a soap opera where the literal Devil is inhabiting a townsperson. But, and I can’t stress this enough, this is my column and I’ll complain if I want to, even if it is an exercise in futility…which we all know it is indeed. That being said…
I’m very confused by this Sarah Horton/Renée DuMonde (Linsey Godfrey) – or SaRenée, as we’ve been referring to her – storyline. I get that Sarah read Renée’s diary and now believes that it is her personal story…but how is she recognizing people? Did Renée doodle sketches of each and every Salemite? Did Renée have polaroids pressed between the pages? And if that’s the case, why didn’t SaRenée wonder why Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) looked three+ decades older?
And while I got a kick out of all the history lessons last week, I couldn’t help but feel let down that they had SaRenée immediately track down Tony and refer to the surroundings as, “her family home.”
The current DiMera manse was the former residence of the Donovan family – yes, that Donovan family – and as such, Renée wouldn’t know the address; it was decidedly not the same DiMera abode she, David Banning, Tony, and Anna Fredricks DiMera (Leann Hunley) resided in.
* I’m a big Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) fan. You might say that he’s a stereotypical predatory gay, I say that he’s soapdom’s first homosexual social climber and praise Days of our Lives for his creation and continued use.
That said, I am a Nancy Wesley (Patrika Darbo) stan for life – I believe that’s how kids these days would say it – and the first time that Leo makes a crack at her expense, especially where her weight is concerned, and I’m out!
* Is anyone going to call Maggie Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers) and let her know that Sarah is back in town, or are they just going to let mother and daughter run into each other, randomly on the street much like Sarah and Xander Cook (Paul Telfer)?
* Surely Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) is too savvy a lady to buy what TR Coates (William Christian) is selling. Also, what’s that flooring in the Salem Inn rooms? Even with a layer of carpeting that vase Paulina dropped shattered into a million little pieces.
* While it made a whole lot of sense for Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) to bring up Marlena Evans Black’s (Deidre Hall) long-ago affair with John Black (Drake Hogestyn) during his chitchat with Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams), if he and Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) were going to try and convince the young man to forgive Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) for cheating on him, why not mention the fact that they broke up over mutual infidelity but managed to find their way back to one another? That should have been the example.
